I’m looking into maybe upgrading my sewing machine? After taking a quick peek at what is available on the market these days, I noticed that combi machines are getting very advanced. I’m curious if anyone on here has one and if they can offer me any advice on what to look for when buying one? Any advice would be welcome ![]()
I have had 2 combi’s but when upgraded last time went for 2 separate machines. Cheaper and find that the stand alone embroidery machine is much better.
Okay 1 machine saves space. If something goes wrong you have no machine. They are dearer as more complicated to combine a machine as has to work harder. The embroidery side is quite punishing on a machine due to the speed. My sister had a combi, the motherboard for the embroidery went so she now has a very heavy sewing machine. Just changed to 2 separates,
It really is up to you and the space you have, maybe go to one of the knitting and stitching shows and try them all out.
I only use Janome machines, the only other brand would be Bernini. Been using Janomes for about 30+ years now, very reliable and I do thrash mins but have serviced every year.
Thank you Caroline, mmmm space is my problem. I did think that maybe a combi would be too much for one machine? Janome has always been my favourite, and it’s off to be serviced which is why I’m thinking of perhaps changing..I couldn’t afford two machines if I’m honest and with the overlocker I just haven’t got the room… yes maybe I need to go look at some first ![]()
If you are limited in space then a combi is helpful with that, but I prefer seperate machines. Many years ago my hubby bought me a lovely combi (brother Innovis 1500D) which is now my spare machine if either my sewing machine or embroidery machine breaks down, or if I need a second embroidery machine for busy spells. My main embroidery machine is a Brother Innovis V3 which is a brilliant machine, and I have a Janome straight stitch sewing machine and a Pfaff sewing machine for all my sewing.
Can I ask Caroline, whether your sisters combi was still under warranty when the motherboard went?
No but she never used it that often.
