Daily Listing Challenge and Group Promotion thread - June 2024

That’s lovely Roz. I loved the little penguins when we visited Australia. We saw them on Phillip Island.

Good afternoon everyone :slight_smile:

As you all said, the party wasn’t as bad as I thought. We had to get there for 6pm and by 7.30, I really had exhausted all my small talk and chit chat but I kept a smile on and got through until 11.30! I played a few games of pool, so that took up a chunk of chatting time! It was OK…lol!

My listing today is:

Ali @Craftyali1 - I admire how organised you are. I know what you mean about having to embrace social media because you need to make your business work as well as you can. I actually don’t mind promoting stuff on Instagram and Facebook. Facebook did used to be my primary source of promotion but Insta has overtaken now. I do still have quite a band of loyal followers on Facebook though.
I find the reels function on Instagram does get my work seen to more non-followers than just posting a photo. I was quite scared of making a reel at first but after you’ve made a few, you get the hang of the features for adding text, stickers etc. It’s even quite fun!
I just try and remember to video my hands making stuff or glazing stuff (I don’t usually put my face in the video!) and then use those clips when I need some content.

2 sales to add to the tally please Mel @aquilacrafts x

Thank you @dotterypottery - I will try to start on some videos for reels as I did hear that somewhere else as well. So thank you for the reminder. I do post a fair amount, but in FB groups, so I need to remember to think outside of those groups.

I did used to do IG, Pinterest and X (Twitter then) as well as Facebook, but seem to have just degenerated to Facebook, which, by and large, I get on with. I must try to get back to one of the others, probably IG. However life gets busy with a load of other stuff and as soon as I think I have mastered one of these platforms they seem to move the goalposts (FB is a horror for doing that) and the way I was doing it no longer works, or at least, everyone who is a success with the platform recommends doing it a different way to the way I do.

But onto the stuff that I enjoy. Here’s a new listing today. A longer length needlecase for those darning needles etc.

Afternoon everyone :slightly_smiling_face:

I struggle to post regularly on Social media and start off at the beginning of the month with good intentions which fall by the wayside as I either run out of ideas or time. I find I get better engagement on Instagram over Facebook and find I get quite a lot of traffic from Pinterest but don’t really know how to use any of them to their full potential and just bumble along. I will head over to your new thread for some tips on the topic Ali @Craftyali1 - it sounds like it will be really useful.

Glad your party turned out better than expected Sarah @dotterypottery

Please can you add one sale to the tally for me Mel @aquilacrafts :dancer:

Hello all

Thank you for sending the social media calendar, Ali @Craftyali1 - I’ll try and mix up different posts and use those good ideas. The new thread is also a good idea and I’ll keep an eye on that for new things to try.

Today I’m posting a clay decoration, embossed with a fern from my garden:

I completely understand…Ali @Craftyali1 …if I was younger, I would make the effort to learn it all …I have spent my whole married life ( apart from two years) making and selling but now it is just to boost my pathetic state pension…and now as a widow it helps pay the bills and keeps me busy. Sadly, I am getting left behind by technology and have only just bought my first smart phone…( which still baffles me a bit). I DO have an IG account but don’t really know how to use it…Most of my life was spent designing and doing craft fairs. I really miss the fairs and the face to face meeting with customers, but again, sadly, I no longer drive so I have to rely on online sales.As soon as I learn something, they change it or upgrade it so now I prefer to stay in my innocent little bubble. That all said, I admire anyone who works hard to do something that they love…xx

I am sorry to hear that you feel left behind with technology, it can seem completely overwhelming and almost unnecessary at times; but yay to owning a smart phone! I am in two minds about it all though: whilst I love learning new stuff why should, for example, my dad being forced to book medical appointments online when he is bed ridden and doesn’t even have broadband?! My mum has a smart phone now and is trying to embrace it all [divorced parents]. So I am up and down with my opinion.

I really miss doing craft fairs! Sooo much! I think they died down a bit due to the covid lockdown, but am hoping for a revival as, like you, I love to get that face to face experience. But for now, I am happy enough to post out orders.

Your artwork is beautiful and I feel transported to that lovely place when I see your work.

I am no way an expert with Instagram or social media, but I will try to explain my understanding to a basic Instagram post. Instagram is very visual, so it’s great for when someone is selling a physical product, like you.

Let’s break it down into 3 things:

  1. photograph (or multiple photographs);
  2. description (description of the product, colour, size, inspiration, and a link of where to buy, etc.);
  3. hashtags (which help potential buyers to find your product and follow further posts) - and maybe add hashtags (see examples) in a separate comment. Those hashtags don’t belong to anyone, so you can use them for yourself.

all I do is put my folksy website address on my IG photos… sometimes I put #newonfolksy… but WHO sees them and goes there to buy?
I belong to a lot of facebook groups and I also use the market place facebook pages where there are another 15 or 20 groups with potential local people who might be interested. I don’t do online banking as I don’t trust it which is why I love folksy because it is paypal which is the only online bank that I use. x

All loved to here.
We were persuaded to have brunch followed by a trip to the circus with our youngest grandchild today, so the day has been completely hijacked. It was fun though. But no listing I’m afraid. See you all tomorrow, I hope!
