I do most of my Folksy stuff on a PC. I take photos with a camera and upload to my PC where I use editing software to make them look as near as possible to the real thing. Mostly, I’m happy with the results.
However, yesterday I listed a new tote bag. The blue colour in it is a bit like a petrol blue but slightly brighter. I have had some real problems as the original photos came out quite turquoise, so I edited the colours to tone it down and after lots of attempts I felt it looked ok, but not perfect. So, I listed it and was ok with it…until I looked at the listing on my phone & tablet where it looks more grey/blue. Now I don’t know what to do…if I go back to the original photos it looks too turguoise on the PC or laptop, but looks ok on the phone/tablet but if I use the edited photos where I have toned down the blue to look good on the PC/laptop, it looks a bit dull on the phone or tablet! I have never noticed this before. Other items in my shop look ok on all the devices so any differences seem minor, it’s just this bag…
I have this problem all the time, I use my iPhone to take the images then edit in Google photos but they look different on my tablet and laptop. I try to get them as near as possible but no idea what other people see on their devices.
I find bears are very difficult to photograph especially if it’s a bright or sunny day, their fur can look quite brassy. I had a local customer last week who picked up her bear from me, it was ecru she said on the fb image it looked to have a pink tint but I didn’t get that on my devices, she still wanted it but it showed that no matter how much I try to get the colours perfect they still don’t necessarily look the same for other people.
It really isn’t just you. I take my photos with a Samsung phone which offers quite a realistic representation of the colours in my artworks. When I go to edit them/ list them on my PC the colours look dfferent, particularly blue shades. I’m alway careful not to over edit them on the PC, but I do put a disclaimer on my listings to the effect that colours you see on screen may differ from the original, depending on your device.
Yep, same here. I use a Canon camera to take my photos and upload and edit on my laptop. Everything on my laptop looks exactly as they do in real life and that is with the colour/brightness setting set in the middle, as standard. I was looking at one of my items yesterday on my phone and it looks like a very harsh/brassy shade of cerise pink. It’s not cerise pink, it’s a muted vintage rose colour. I have the standard disclaimer about colours looking different on devices to real life but I think it could still put people off from buying in the first place.
