Garden Wildlife-What have you got living in your garden?

A rat has turned up,I suppose if you feed the birds then you end up feeding everything else. Jonesy cat wont even kill fledglings so no chance of a trophy there,so it seems I get to do the honours as you never end up with just one and Weils disease is a considerable hazard with children around. So where did I put that rusty old air gun?

For me,it seems to be the feeding ground for slugs and snails, who have decimated my veggie patch, but my very favourite resident is this juvenile robin.

Robins are great for clearing up the caterpillars-Slugs and snails are a big problem in my garden too, but sadly I canā€™t find a wildlife friendly solution to this :confounded:

(Shudder) Although they do say you are never more than 8 feet away from a rat if you live in an urban areaā€¦:scream:

The rat only wants to eat so I donā€™t like bumping it off,but common sense has to prevail.

We have been being visited by this beautiful mint mothā€¦thinking it might be something to do with enjoying mint tea in the garden now the nicer weather has arrived.

They are pretty arenā€™t they! Iā€™ve got a patch of mint in my front garden and there are always lots of these little chaps buzzing about!

Good afternoon everyone, I finally got a photo of Newton and Nessa :grinning:

and this terrifying individual who has taken up residence in our gazebo! It really is this big, I havenā€™t enhanced the photo at all :scream:

Donna xx

Iā€™ve just realised the spider doesnā€™t look as huge in the uploaded photo, so just to scare all the arachnophobics I will tell you itā€™s about 2.5 inches from the tip of itā€™s back legs to itā€™s front :scream:
Sheā€™s been there all summer so Iā€™ve decided to call her Charlotte lol

At this size Iā€™m not at all sure what your spider is. At 2.5" across I would have guessed it was a giant house spider, but they spin sheet like webs and this one looks like a kind of orb web spiderā€¦ Amazing creature though!

I carefully made sure my resident rescue hedgehog can get from my back garden to all the neighbouring back gardens but he keeps making his displeasure known about the fact he canā€™t get out the side gate - yup poop on the path but sorry matey until you show me a certificate of road safety awareness you are staying at the back (eating all my slugs and snails) Iā€™ve seen enough flat ones on the roads. I havenā€™t actually spotted him since he was released, the OH has but not quick enough to get a photo.

I think sheā€™s just an exceptionally big European garden spider you canā€™t see in the photo, there are spots in the shape of a cross on the abdomen. Sheā€™s probably grown bigger than usual because of the mild weather :grinning:

We enjoy lots of wildlife visitors through the year. Here is one of our regular favouritesā€¦

I will try and put some more up along the way.

Thereā€™s probably no reason to think they canā€™t get that big just because this one is outside the average size. She would have some people I know running for the hills

Lovely pic! I donā€™t like to be a squirrel racist, but the reds are much lovelier than the greys

Hedgehogs are one of the species I wish I had in my garden. I have a plentiful supply of prey for them, but sadly thereā€™s no access because I have a high wall and my husband refuses to let me knock a hole in the bottom of it to let them in :confounded:

It doesnā€™t seem to keep the frogs out though-they are great at finding their way in!

Hereā€™s a fella with friends, too! Mr Robin and Mr Finch trying to get in on the food.
