Hi there. I haven’t posted here in a while, it gets tiring trying to keep up with everything!
I was hoping for some advice.
I make quirky, dark, whimsy Art and I have great difficulty knowing what to tag my work with, not just on folksy but over social media- Instagram especially. Sometimes it’s so hard knowing how to reach the people you know would probably really like your work. I see some people fly up to 10k followers in no time, and I’m only just teetering towards 1000!
Does anyone have any suggestions re tagging?
I already use Art, Illustration, Black ink etc.
i don’t know much about this (and only have a few followers !) but i’ve just been looking at you IG posts and think your tags are v. good with lots of areas covered.
Could you maybe add tags that link to ‘cultish’ things such as ‘the craft’ [the film] for your witch art photos etc.
Other possible tags - #madeinwales#indie#handdrawn#characterart#dark#emo#music#musicart#alternative#penandink#pendrawing#blackandwhite#monochrome#creative#monoart#darkfashion - ?
Also - are there major tags for art that you are missing out on - maybe #artoninstagram#artoftheday#drawingoftheday or something - ?
just some thoughts - and i love you IG posts.
hope things well with you,
sal

Hi Sally, thanks for your input. Those are great ideas for me to try.
I’ve been thinking of starting to tag some of my Art with ‘Tim Burton’ too- because some people who like his stuff might like mine. But I’ll add it into a little ‘if you like…’ sort of sentence.
It’s so much harder than people think!!
Thanks again, any suggestions are taken with great love and appreciation. <3
i was going to suggest tim burton tag - but wasn’t sure whether to. quite alot of tim burton style tags are just fan art i think,
do you add #sketchbook to your posts - ?
I think that Sally @SallyandtheFreckles has just about covered every tag I can think of. Your style is great, just keep going, just a case of trying to build up a rapport with people and like you say yes, it gets very tiring keeping on top of everything and creating as well. Good luck, I’m sure things will keep growing.
I’ve almost contracted type two diabetes due to all the sugary sappy saccharin stuff (*beautifully crafted though it may be).
Gothic Victorian Steampunk Voodoo Horror SciFi Horror Cabinet of Curiosity Macabre Witchcraft Occult types (I think I covered some bases there?) don’t seem to be drawn towards fluffy ‘craft’ sales platforms.
Some of our Kuriology creations would sit most comfortably in Harry P’s ‘Borgin & Burkes’ or an episode of ‘Tales from the Crypt’. I guess there is less demand for ‘Hammer House of Horror’ than there is ‘Bagpuss mice’?
I love cabinets of curiosity and old fashioned fusty museum crammed with weird and wonderful stuff. Your shop captures that atmosphere I particularly like the fish. Good luck with your shop!
