I Am Thinking About Closing My Shop

Oh thank you for that @JOYSofGLASS@JOYSofGLASS. I see what you mean about the collections issue. I’ll dispense of the collections and hopefully that’ll be easier then to see things! I’ll check the FB link and the titles too :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Hi, Joy. Can you explain a bit more please about customers not being able to buy from a collection? I am not understanding what that means. Thanks.

Hi I’ve just favourited your shop as your items are beautiful and deserve to be seen :cherry_blossom:

I agree, it is a lovely shop. I wouldnt dispense with all the collections though. You sell some totally different things ( jewellery sets, earrings, hats, neck warmers) and it is useful to be able to go directly to the right section.

There is a shop I see regularly on my favourites , as it has some lovely cards that I noticed once so I favourited the shop to remember them when I stock up on cards. But it is a large shop that sells lots of other things too. When I needed cards I clicked on the shop, but with no colllections I was faced with pages and pages of items I wasnt interested in, with cards dotted around. It needed a card collection to go straight to. So they didnt get my order!

your jewellery is lovely…the only thing that puts me off is the strips of wood that they are photographed on, …it distracts from your beautiful items x

Exactly what I said . You can’t click to buy from the collection boxes… You can only click to the next layer… The listings within the collection.

You have a lot of items for sale so a few collections would be helpful as, like @JOYSofGLASS said, people don’t like to scroll too much,

Maybe creating a few collections but making them broader such as ‘earrings’, ‘necklaces’, bracelets’ etc. would help.

I understand, but they are still a lot easier for shops with lots of items, I like the feature but agree you don’t want too many.

It would be easier for me to categorise into 7 but 7 looks messy. 6 / 3 looks nice and neat (and therefore professional) and my actual listings show near the top of my shop which is where they need to be.
Yes I use my own categories sometimes if i want to get more quickly to a listing to mark it out of stock.. usually quicker than trying to get to it using the Folksy search anyway

All I can really say is that you’ve got to be in it to win it. It can be very disheartening when something you’ve taken the time to craft doesn’t sell. However it certainly won’t sell if it isn’t available to buy.

Hang on in there - unless this is meant to be your full time business treat any sale as a lovely bonus that will make you smile as much as the person who bought from you will when they receive their order.

Hi Happy Hedgehog

I just favourited your shop. You have beautiful jewellery.

I have the same feelings. I don’t know what else I can do. Probably advertise my shop more often on Instagram…

Good luck :+1:

@milenarosa your art is awesome but you are the high end with prices and right now people don’t have spare cash…My most expensive painting is £25 and I prefer to choose to sell at low prices on a regular basis…that was my decision because I am a prolific painter and already have over 600 items in my shop and wouldn’t know who to do with them if I waited to get higher prices for my work.
It is a difficult thing deciding whether to sell regularly for low prices or wait for that lovely customer who is willing to pay what your art is worth. It can be quite a touchy subject, deciding on prices and a lot of people get upset…maybe have a sale of some of your items to get the ball rolling?..Just remember that your work is awesome and brilliant.xx

Isn’t it strange how different people notice different things? I hadn’t even registered that there were strips of wood in the photos!!

But sometimes I think I must be a bit weird ( no comments please!!!) about photos, because there is always lots of discussions about good photos, backgrounds, lighting etc, but when I look at items for sale on here I don’t consider the background at all, just the item. Obviously if a photo is too dark to see the item, or too “busy” wirh other things, or cut off so the item doesnt show, or similar things, then it is an issue, but otherwise I am not that bothered by perfect photographic quality. The seller is a jewellery maker, or an artist, or a knitter, or a woodworker etc etc, not a photographer (apart from those who sell photos and are indeed highly skilled in that area). I guess that is reflected in my own poor photos, that seem adequate to me, but I am sure others would say let me down and explain lack of sales. I ramble on … sorry.

Hi Noelle @HappyHedgehogShop there’s some great advice on here already that might help you going forward. I would also add, maybe take a wee step back and think about a few things. I know this has helped me when I’ve had wobbles in the past regarding my own shop. These are the questions that I’ve asked myself in the past. Would you still make, design and create even if you didn’t have your shop and also would you miss having your shop on here if you gave it up? If yes, perhaps you should stick with it. As Steven @azimuthimages and Debby @Bearlescent have said, you have to be in it to win it and that does mean social media promotion is vital and needs to be regular. I find FB is better for me personally than Instagram. Could you create solely for pleasure for a while, rather than adding to your shop stock and worrying about what might sell? Then also concentrate more on promoting the lovely items that you already have on the socials. Maybe collages or reels showing a selection of your gorgeous neckwarmers as autumn approaches, then a few days later another selection of your earrings etc. to showcase what you have available. Your shop photos are lovely, clear and bright and your descriptions are spot on, if you tweek your titles a bit so that say earrings or necklace is in the very first few words of the title, that might help too. At the end of the day it’s a very saturated market for jewellery, hand-knitted items, greetings cards, crochet work lol :joy: well just about everything to be honest! If you aren’t trying to make a living from your shop but you do want an outlet to showcase your lovely items then you should stick with it, but if it’s stressing you, you could reassess if it’s worth it. Lots of luck with the online market and hoping things will feel more positive for you soon x

Thank you for the suggestion, @teabreaks.

Yes, the prices… I think this is quite personal. Some of my paintings are currently on sale.

To be honest, I was browsing random Folksy shops to see how much “Abstract” paintings cost, and the prices vary a lot (I paid attention to sizes and whether the paintings are originals or prints).

I believe one day some item will be marked as sold :four_leaf_clover::four_leaf_clover::four_leaf_clover::four_leaf_clover:.
