Good morning everyone !
When showcasing items- for example the alphabet game - do you all use your magic link all the time or do you just upload pics ?
TU
Hi Karen, I use the magic link and a photo. If people like your item they can then easily click through using the link.
If I remember rightly the magic link only registers when outside of Folksy. Someone may correct me.
I see thank you very much @kokoblue
Hi @Caroleecrafts I have used it inside and outside Folksy
But just wondered if when in Folksy I needed to use it
Thank you
But be aware that that link drops cookies and nobody gets asked to approve them.
Hi Karen @vesselsofcuriosity - **edited this as I got it wrong and don’t want to confuse you"
I thought only Plus accounts had the Magic Link, and that you were meaning the URL instead (the bit in the browser bar - it’s identical, but the magic link has the word “find” in it, while the url doesn’t.
But it seems all Folksy shop have the magic links, but the discounts on selling fees (the Referral Scheme) only kick in if the shop has active plus membership.
So ignore me today ![]()
Good shout Joy @JOYSofGLASS - I doubt many shop owners will be aware of this.
The Magic Link cookie just lasts for 24 hours, and I’m assuming (hoping) it won’t trigger tracking of the user unless they buy - in which case their data is collected anyway - but of course it is a cookie that the person clicking on the link is unaware of.
Have you raised this with Folksy, if so, what did they say?
I am not a Plus member, yet I still have the “magic link”, which I use as a quicker way to copy my items, rather than copying the url. The difference is that is someone buys as a result, I will still pay the full commision, not the reduced that would apply if I were a plus member.
That’s interesting Liz, @samazama Did you used to be a Plus member? I know you keep it then.
When we land on another shop page, we can’t see if they have a magic link, only the seller can see that on their own pages.
All shops have always had unique referral links, but I thought they were different to the new “magic” link, that has the extra word “find” within it (presumably that’s what triggers the cookie bit). But thinking about it, it was probably easier for Folksy to turn on the function for all shops at the same time, but just apply the discount to those that have active Plus membership at the time of sale.
(Apologies Karen @vesselsofcuriosity - I most likely have got it wrong.)
No, I have never been a Plus member. I think when the Magic link was introduced , they said that everyone would get it, but the discount would only apply to Plus members. Actually, I have noticed recently that sometimes I find I don’t have one on a particular item, so maybe it is gradually being faded out for Non-plussies. If there isnt one I just copy the url as before.
Thanks Liz. I have edited my reply to Karen. ![]()
They are aware and trying to sort something out that was months ago.
Ah found it 7/11/2025 to be precise![]()
