Monthly Makes Challenge April/ May It's the little things

Welcome to the Monthly Makes challenge where we encourage each other to make something based around the theme of the month. This challenge is open to anyone that fancies giving it a go and we will cheer each other on along the way! There’s no prize, it’s just for fun.

The theme for April is: ‘It’s the little things’

It can be interpreted in your own way. Maybe you’ll create something small and intricate, a piece that celebrates delicacy and care. Or maybe you’ll capture those everyday moments that bring quiet happiness.

Whether you make tiny treasures or tell a story of life’s simple pleasures, let this theme be about appreciation, intention, and finding beauty in what might otherwise go unnoticed.

I’ve just started a new project which is making these little boxes of calm. These little boxes have a set of cards which have simple, thoughtful messages to offer a little encouragement when it’s needed most. This is the first one I’ve made and needs a bit of tweaking but overall I’m happy with the result.
I can’t wait to see or read about everyone else’s little things!

I love these Hilary @kokoblue

That’s a perfect gift for someone who is a bit overloaded with life stuff!

Absolutely, I think most of us get there from time to time!

I have literally just finished a gorgeous premature/small newborn super soft pure merino wool hat and booties set. It’s taken hours grading the original designs down and making them. Hopefully someone looking for top quality for an unexpected new arrival will appreciate them! Better photos will be taken before listing them!

Oh thanks. Not sure if to make a few more sets. This set took over 7 hours in total not to mention the high cost of the pure 100% machine washable merino wool yarns.

These are beautiful

Sounds like a good idea @adeevisionar You won’t know if you don’t give it a go.

I always think about make some pre-made ceramic Christmas decoration kits for people to paint themselves. I should do it one day!

I’ve been making lots of small things! These are mosaic pieces but they are the last batch I’m going to make for commissions. The time and effort does not match the price I need to charge. I did tell my main customer that I was stopping them at Christmas and then a few more people asked me and I couldn’t say no :face_with_hand_over_mouth: it’s definitely no from now on though!

How is everyone getting on with the challenge this month?

Would you like me to extend “It’s the little things” throughout May as well?

I really like the topic I think it’s got such scope, so if you haven’t had a chance to join in so far, we could all give it a bit more of a go?

I’ve just made these, but they won’t be fired until probably the end of next week. They will be fridge magnets when they are finished.

I love making little things. I started making these wrapped rocks to create a tiny warp to weave on. They fit in the palm of your hand and are just nice to hold

I’ve extended this challenge for another month - so if anyone wants to take part, read the challenge details in the first post and we’ll show our progress throughout May.

I’ve just finished these magnets for the challenge. Is anyone else still taking part?

Hi

I know I’m a little late to the party but I have been experimenting with a pattern I created at the request of a customer who ordered keepsake bears. She wanted a smaller version to be able to take with her as a reminder of her dad and she keeps her bear in the car with her.

I thought these little 5 inch bears would make little gift ideas so this is the one I have just listed and I have others to photograph. Also good for using small pieces of fabric which I somehow never want to get rid of. x

I’ve got a stacker bracelet that is braided and I feel delicate in it’s own nature this is a piece I made this May. It’s also got the Buddha symbol bead at its center that symbolises peace and peace within. I feel it reminds ourselves to have that bit of inner peace in ourselves during all these different not so nice things happening across the world.

I’ve been working on some new ideas and I have created these little button hugs. They’re a little token to let someone know you’re thinking about them. I’ve created 2 versions, one is in a handmade envelope the other in a little hessian bag.
