New listing page set up

Kim @kimfolksy not a fault, but relating to ease of use. I’m finding myself automatically clicking on the “add an option” button thinking it’s the Save and Continue button that’s much further down the page. Could it be made a little less prominent please? Perhaps more like the way the photo section is laid out?

Just the heads up, be mindful when copying listings using the new page set up, as it cuts the description at the end if it includes more than 1500 characters. Have left feedback.

I have used it for the first time today. I am another one who does not like change. I needed to edit some info that I put into the last batch of new items at the end of last year and I noticed that there are 3 boxes that are not on the new style page: Where the item was made, When the item was made and Inspiration for making the item. I had to revert to the old style page to access the box that I needed to update (because there was a mistake in the text that shows up on the listing page).

Do I take it that going forward we will no longer be able to add this info? I used the inspiration box to add the URL to my blog post that details the inspiration for the item and shows how and what it is made from.

I just had a look out of curiosity, and I think you might be doing yourself more harm by putting a link of your blog there. The description box can take more characters now, so material info can be added in your description (which you already have) and the actual material section (which you have already filled in). I only checked the 1st listing, and there wasn’t any more info from what you have already got on your listing, so by clicking on it, I went away from it and with other items showing on the side, it’s very easy to carry on scrolling on your blog and eventually going completely away, instead of returning to your listing and buy your beautiful shawl. Just a thought here x

I get what you’re saying. A lot of the items currently in the shop don’t have particularly interesting blog posts and, for the most part, only show what yarn was used and maybe one or two work-in-progress photos, if I remember to take any, they could be more interesting and that is my fault: age, fed-up-ness of life and the world, fatigue etc. There are exceptions to that, of course, in the blog posts for the items that have been made using my own hand spun yarn, those can take you down a rabbit hole to a wealth of information, and, happy to say that those are the items that have pretty much sold out from my shop at the moment, until I can get around to making more.

They all show that my items are genuinely made by hand though. However, from the stats for my blog, very few people see or read what I write in recent years (it used to be busy years ago), so I guess people don’t actually click away from the listing and go to the blog anyway and I’ve not promoted it in a very long time, social media having been dominated by a certain “look at me-me-me” person-in-a-postion-of-power across the pond for so long now that I have lost the will to bother posting on social media for the time being. I will still be adding the link on my listings though.

I’m sure that other people use that “inspiration” box in other ways to me, which is why I mentioned that it appears to no longer be available on the new style listing form.

The inspiration section was removed and the description made longer so the inspiration can be included directly in the description part of the listing instead. The inspiration section isn’t looked at by search, but sometimes we see sellers putting all of the important details under inspiration instead of the description (which would also be easier for potential buyers to miss). The change was made to get that information where it’s the most helpful.

Hi Kim @kimfolksy , will the issue with the description bringing up to 1500 characters when copying an existing listing be looked at? I have sent feedback as well as mentioned it here for other users to keep an eye on, but that’s still the case and it can very easily lead to unfinished descriptions, especially as the description now is longer. At the moment, when copying an existing listing, I also need to open it, copy the missing part and go and paste it to the new listing, which is not ideal.

I only joined Folksy last week so have only seen and used the new listing form and have been happy with how easy it is to use. Not sure about the shipping though as it will be a pain to update all my listings twice a year when Royal Mail make their changes every April and October.

That’s always been a problem here - no shipping profiles.

You can go to ‘bulk edit shipping’ on your dashboard but it’s still a pain as you have to trawl through all the listings, select the ones that have the same shipping costs, then you can edit them all a the same time. Fine if all your pieces are the same weight, not so good when you have different weights and therefore different shipping costs.

Weve tried both when we first started but we much prefer the new listings page, new options is great still having a few minor issues but that could be the ipad.. we just wish description box was bigger or could be made larger.. my mum uses her iphone or iPad, as im not very good at doing the listings so thats my mums job..

slowly getting used to being here and enjoying the forums x

@theslothscavern Sorry, that should have been fixed last week, but as it’s still behaving like that, it may have been one of the things we had to roll back when we had the issues on Friday. I’ll make sure it’s still on the list of things to be looked at.

@heavenscentz You should be able to make the description box bigger by holding your finger in the bottom right corner (above the character count) and dragging it down. If it doesn’t work, it sounds like the device/browser you’re using isn’t quite behaving as it should, so definitely try on both iPhone/iPad, or see if a different browser works better if you have one.

Thank you

Thank you whoever it was for bringing the missing Inspiration section to my attention. I often use this to specify my postage method for the listing. I see it is still there if i go into old version so all i have do now is go into every single listing i have changed since the new version and grab what i had in inspiration and add it to the end of the descrtiption. Lovely, that’s another hour or so of admin work i hadn’t realised i would be needing.
How helpful it would have been if we had been informed of this change before it was implemented !!

I quite agree Joy. I used it for extra information on my item descriptions, now I have over 1500 items to adjust! Days of extra admin work i could do without. They could have actually included the section by adding it to the alteration algorithm! I know more about running the back end of a large system rather than the front having helped run a large system within a large NHS theatre system for years.
