New Shop 2026 Seeking Marketing Advice

Hi everyone! I’ve been working hard on my shop lately, but I’m finding it a bit tough to get consistent eyes on my items. I would love to get some ‘Folksy-friend’ advice from those of you who’ve cracked the code!

If anyone has a spare minute to peek at my shop,

I’d specifically love feedback on my tags or titles—am I missing keywords that shoppers actually use? Also, for those of you active on social media, which platform is currently bringing you the most traffic to Folksy? Any tips on how to better use things like #FolksyFriday would be amazing. Thanks so much for any help!"

An off-topic point that I saw immediately. It’s obviously up to you if you change this or not. The image you’ve posted - Curiosity is spelled incorrectly. As it’s your shop header too, I’d advise sorting it out but it’s your decision. I have assumed it’s gone unnoticed.

Edit to add that in your shop name, “vessel’s of curiosity”, there should not be an apostrophe in vessels. That one might take Folksy admin to fix, I’m not sure we can change it ourselves. Again, fix or not, it’s your decision.

Marketing is up to you. You need to do your own, off-folksy marketing, as Folksy themselves do only a little. Look at using resources such as Facebook, Instagram, tick tok, etc. Join steam punk type groups and clubs. Identify your dream customer and target them. Do appropriate craft fairs, ask people to sign up to your newsletter, do the odd special offer for loyal customers, etc etc.

Look on the Folksy blog, as there’s a ton of info there. Some of it will be appropriate to you.

Hi Karen and welcome to Folksy. On here we have to promote our own shops through social media. Your Instagram link goes to nothing and you do not have Facebook or Pinterest. I use the blog button to go to my YouTube channel.

There are 2 threads on the forum, the first one what have you listed today. I normally start a new thread each month. No commitment with this one.

Or the daily challenge thread, where by you post each day but also have to click the link on everyone’s post to visit the showcase item, heart next to the quantity button on the shop page. This increases views and helps with seo etc.

Like my creations yours are niche but once you find an audience they tend to stay. I know fiddly but may be worth hunting for smaller bottles, with a lower price point. That way gives a taster of what your work involves.

Welcome, Karen, from a fellow upcycler :waving_hand:

As a maker of similarly tall and narrow creations, may I offer a little comment on your photos, in ‘list’ pages such as your shop page Folksy crops the main photo to square - so portrait photos get topped and tailed. Step back out a little or take the main photo in landscape to ensure potential customers can see the full effect of your work. Once on the product page, portrait photos display correctly so the other photos can be closer.

Regarding social media, many of my views come from Pinterest.

Thank you very much

Oh my yes it has it my shop url is spelt correct thank you for that

Yes, I know it’s a lot to take in at the moment as it’s all new to me, especially Instagram and Pinterest. Thank you.

Don’t try and do it all at once. Start with the basics of getting your shop sorted (the spelling error and the misused apostrophe), and when that is done maybe reach out on some of the threads on this forum as a start.

I can’t specifically help with pinterest or instagram ( both are beyond me!) but again I would recommend starting with one, working out how best to use it, and when you are comfortable with it, then branch out to another platform. They all have their own quirks I believe, so easily to get confused and make errors if you rush things. I see you are on facebook as I spotted a post from you earler, where again the spelling and punctuation issues were pointed out. Look out for craft groups on FB you can join to showcase your work.

Wishing you all the best.

Welcome to Folksy Karen!

I would agree with Caroline that you need to make sure you have links from your shop to all your active SM accounts - and links from there back to your shop. I was going to follow you on IG, but the link in your shop does not work.

I love your beach paintbrush! What a great gift idea for a painter & decorator - perhaps you could add a few tags such as ‘gifts for painters & decorators’?

Best of luck with your shop.
