Please note this is a silly jokey message, not really sad and don’t need sympathetic replies.
It is my greatest ambition in life at the moment to get something from my shop in the ‘Our favourite finds on Folksy’ section. You gotta dream big! right?
Tried all sorts, I have revamped all my photos, tried upping the compositional complexity of my pieces, bribery (last one is a joke) …no luck yet.
Not a sympathy reply! With so many lovely pieces Marina, it can only be a matter of time
I hesitate to say this as you’ve already done work on your photographs (which really clearly show your art), but I’ve noticed that Folksy Favourites do tend to be the more ‘styled’ pieces - whether that’s lifestyle type photos or just some colour and context in the backgroud. Some of the art pieces in the current list are in a home setting with home style props for example. Might be worth picking hald a dozen of your own favourite works, trying another shoot and then putting those as your first listing photos, to see if they get more general attention?
LOL! I tried styled photographs. That was my first photography fix, as I too saw loads of lovely styled photos. Didn’t work. I then read up on Folksy about what kind of thing should be in your main photo and styled was not recommended, it was recommended for the additional photos. So I changed it all to simple and clear. Didn’t work either. I am not really worrying about it, I am getting sales and that. I’ve just got a stupid bee in my bonnet about it …just a proverbial bonnet, not wearing a bonnet.
I add new things all the time. Not working. Can’t do less bright work as the buyers seem to like it colourful, they come first over my daft ambitions. Personally and a muted colour person and I love black and white, but it’s the colour that sells every time.
Begging sounds good I could try offering them my left over Halloween sweets if there are any (collection only) …It’s not a bribe, just a wee incentive, right?
Thank you. I really do think I should probably be concentrating on sales, it a silly thing to be thinking about when it’s November tomorrow and the start of the biggest month of the year. I am daft!
Gorgeous work, agree with Debbie though, some lifestyle shots might help, I always used flat lay and had a few chosen as Folksy favourites and added to gift guides. I do think you’ll get there as I said your work is beautiful, just a matter of time.
Sorry I’ve just seen that you have styled photos, I’m not sure how long you’ve been on Folksy but if you’re selling well I really wouldn’t worry about it, just be patient I’m sure you’ll get spotted soon.
I see absolutely nothing that isn’t delightful about your artwork or how you’ve presented it in your shop but hadn’t spotted you before now, so perhaps you’ve just flown under the radar. I’ve just favourited loads!
One thing I have found that helps my work find its way Into the gift guides and favourites is keeping an eye on the tags for the month and updating as appropriate. At least one staffer chooses regularly from these features, so if you don’t do that, it might be worth having a go. Can’t hurt!
They have finally caved! I have a ‘Favourite Finds on Folksy’! Yay!!
I have no champagne to crack open for this momentous moment…might just be a tiny (slightly dusty) can of Appletizer somewhere that was free from Sainsbury, that will do. In case you are interested, It wasn’t the badger that was picked, it was this owl…
I’m not very good at photography and my phone, which is a Flintstones 2000bc is really not up to the task. I’ve redone all my photos twice this year, and now I’m strugling with getting photography time where there is light, I’m splitting what few hours I have of daylight I have now between drawing and photography.
We will get there, just needs a bit more effort than all those lucky folks with fancy cameras and lighting.
