Hi, question for sellers selling to USA. My products have 8 different tariff codes across the different ranges I offer. It was nice and easy with adding 10% of the item value for RM and I know what my codes are but I am struggling to find the new tariff costs per code, that take effect from next week.
I haven’t got very far from my internet searching this morning and wondered if you can tell me where I need to look please, is there somewhere on the RM website I am not finding that lists the costs per code please?
Hi Sarah. Royal Mail do have some info on their website. I had a email from them yesterday about it but as I don’t sell to the US I didn’t bother reading all of it.
Thanks Karen, I had some help from another seller and she gave me this website. Having had a quick look at my codes I might leave rates at the 10% for now and will double check on the Royal Mail website next week when they in theory do their update on the 21st.
I had this from Royal Mail today. Stating: From the 24th of July 2026, postal shipments will no longer benefit from preferential duty treatment. Standard duty rates, including any applicable Section 232 and 301 duties, will apply.
I’m just contemplating adding USA option so I did a trial postage payment for it on Royal Mail.
An obvious objection to using it here on Folksy is that 'i need to add a customer phone number. As that information is not provided on an order that would give me an immediate obstacle. Add to that the problem of often not knowing that i am sending to someone other than the customer who paid for the order…And that I’m pretty sure my high USA view count is via Pinterest, which has a poor record of sales conversion… I don’t think i will bother with it on here.
I queried the phone number issue with Royal Mail and was advised to put my phone number in which I have done and not had any issues so far, but as I said I only get a fraction of orders to USA.
With the removal of the flat rate 10% and the need to add on section 232 (if applicable) and 301 the costs are more than double now for some items. I am going to wait until RM have updated their system, next week, to check my figures.
I’ve been shipping to the US for years, although don’t on Folksy any more as the site doesn’t really work for it.
The temporary 10% Section 122 tariff that has applied to imports to the US from most countries is due to expire on 24 July 2026. It was introduced as a temporary measure after the U.S. Supreme Court struck down the earlier IEEPA tariffs (they’re the ones that His Orangeness enacted with his crayons).
The U.S. administration has made it clear that it intends to replace this with new tariffs under Section 301, but those tariffs have not automatically taken effect on 24 July. They are subject to ongoing investigations and consultation. Current proposals include:
10% for imports from the UK, EU and a number of other economies.
12.5% for imports from another group of countries.
For my products, I don’t think anything changes for now - I’m going to continue working on the basis of a 10% U.S. tariff unless and until there’s an official announcement changing the UK rate.
There are a few other developments that matter much more for me than 24 July itself, which may not apply to you at all:
The new CPSC e-filing requirements (affecting children’s products).
The CBP advance data/e-filing requirements that are affecting certain tariff headings (including some toy-related codes). I don’t think these are finalised yet.
I guess also whether the UK remains in the proposed 10% Section 301 group is something else to watch, or whether the UK-U.S. trade agreement results in a different treatment later on.
It’s an ongoing minefield with the Donald at large!
Debbie thanks. That is what I understand after a bit of google yesteday. I’m not going to set it up on here either, don’t think it will work particularily well the way the linited order details work. Will be most interested to see what happens when I get my first USA order in my other shops. I’ve had a few here before but years ago before any tariff came into play.
Thanks, that all confirms what I found yesterday so I am going to leave my listings alone for now and will monitor Royal Mail for further updates next week.
I have only had 1 order to USA this year so it really isn’t worth the headspace and hassle, but hate that I have already had to stop selling to EU and now USA is looking less favourable too.
Even on E*** it isn’t set up in the right way and it isn’t fair to buyers - you have to put the tariff charge on the item price as “global pricing”, which means that a US buyer who also has to pay a state tax will also pay that state tax on the tariff portion.
Of course the seller is penalised at every turn there too since you’re charged fees on the tariff as well as the shipping, which really annoys me - especially since the shipping is now so much more expensive since everything has to go tracked to qualify for the duty paid option
I’ve added mine to my US shipping charge assuming an average price for the item and 10% of that plus a bit for RM admin charge. I will now wait hopefully to see what happens. I do have a good %age of USA visitors on my other shop and not via old pins on Pinterest as here.
I have also added the tariff fees to my shipping prices. On E I had to set up different shipping profiles for each of different products because of the item values and it is a faff, it is much easier on Folksy as you can set shipping per item as you create the listings.
Both here and E had been set up to include the tariff. I don’t get many but I did get sales from there. Shame really. But will reinstate once I know what I’m doing. Which could be never
I sell baby itrms, and it took me a week to do all the work for the CPSC, plus ordering new swing tags and clothing labels. So on E I opened back up to US sales. Now there is the next lot of changes, from what I could see, for me it will go from 10% to 16%. For now I’m leaving things as they are and will see next week when I post items.
