Gosh - the services I use most have gone up another 20p per item.

Do you ever go and relist an old item and see how relatively cheap the postal charges were even 5 years ago?

I think I may have to offer 2nd class soon. I normally use 24hr tracked as it gives me peace of mind knowing it should get there quickly if someone has ordered at the last minute for a special occassion.

My small parcel prices are sometimes almost as much as the item itself now! (For some of my smaller character items that are too large for a large letter)

Yes, I’ve changed my approach now and for the UK am sending everything Tracked 48, which I’m finding to be a good and reliable service so far - really worth the saving from Tracked 24 and I just upgrade to that if I know a client needs something quickly.

I’ve been saving the prices of the services I use since October 2023 in a spreadsheet and I’ve just had a look at one of my most used services - Tracked to US, large letter under 250g. It’s gone from £10.55 to £12.05 in that time. UK large letter, untracked under 100g has increased from £1.95 to £3.20 in that time :face_with_diagonal_mouth:

Have started going through to update the prices in my spreadsheet since originally posting here and have found some confusing info that I’ve queried with Royal Mail and am waiting to hear back about - they give different prices for Tracked to US for 1kg up to 2kg on pages 10 and 12. I suspect that page 10 should be notated to show it’s for Small Parcel and page 12 for Medium, but who knows!

Edited to add:

Also amazing to see that you can send a 2kg small parcel to the US using the tracked service for £20.20 but, if you decide to use the lower grade ‘Standard’ service, it’ll cost you £36.50! :open_mouth:

Can’t believe the pure greed of RM these days, it’s getting ridiculous! I used to send everything 1st class but I now only send 2nd because of the price hikes, luckily most customers are happy to wait an extra couple of days. Thank goodness 2nd class large letter is still the same price.

For International services I think a lot of it is also to do with the agreements they have with overseas postal partners, which are fairly frequently renegotiated. In the UK, I guess they have many of the same problems that we’re all juggling like general costs of living, employment costs, overheads like premises, petrol, insurance.

Would be lovely to think there might be a slow down in all the increases at some point, but not while the global war mongers are in power…

Like I said it’s pure greed, I just looked up what the ceo of royal mail earns in a year, and it’s probably more than this now. Our poor posties only get a pittance compared to men like Martin who just sit on their backsides letting the money roll in. (Sorry I’m a bit irritable today). Grrrr.

As of late 2023/2024, the CEO of Royal Mail (parent company International Distribution Services - IDS), Martin Seidenberg, receives a base salary of £700,000 per year plus a £95,000 pension allowance. Total remuneration could exceed £3 million, including potential bonuses, reflecting a significant increase from his previous role’s base salary

Sarah @dotterypottery… My postage is already more than the cost of my cards…no wonder people don’t send cards any more. WHen we first moved to this house, we would send 100 Christmas cards each year…now the same would cost nearly £200 just to wish people a Happy Christmas. As a result I no longer send cards to anyone. Which is ironic as I sell cards…lol…

The large letter tracked 48 has gone up by 35p. I normally send items over £10 tracked 48, but might have to change that to just normal 2nd class L/letter.

Whaaaat? I’m glad I saw this I somehow missed the price increase. So large letter has gone from £1.55 to £3.30?? Do you tend to charge the full postage separately or absorb some of it in the item price?

Second class 100g large letter is still £1.55.

Ah yes, I’ve just looked it up now. Thankyou for pointing that out, panic over!
