Can we talk Scrunchies if you have a moment.
Who uses scrunchies and who doesn’t. ?
Now I can honestly admit to never ever in my many years of life having ever worn one in my own hair or stuck one in the hair of my two daughters or my granddaughter.
I can’t say I have ever seen one in use on anybody either and I’ve checked lots of people in Tesco
( not bothered in Waitrose ) and never seen one in use on anyone.
Which leaves me quite puzzled as a non - scrunchie person .
So what do you do with then and who actually does it ?
I wear them all the time, I love a pretty scrunchie, especially silk ones, I’ve got long thick hair and while I love it loose if I’m out, I need it out of my way for horse jobs, riding and arting.
I wear a scrunchie nearly every day (silk ones) They are helpful for curly or fragile hair because they are a bit more gentle and supposedly help stop the hair from breaking.
A silk one is good for curly hair because if you put it up gently (without twisting it around and around, it can help keep the curls looking neat and tidy after you have slept.
I also like to use a scrunchie to put my hair up and then I wrap my hair around the scrunchie (so it acts like one of those bun doughnuts and gives my bun a bit more volume (scrunchie is hidden inside the bun so I usually use one the same colour as my hair)
I remember scrunchies back in the 80s/90s Michala wore them in her long hair when she was little and it was in a bun with various colours to match her outfit, then I thought they disappeared till I saw people were making them so people obviously like them.. I prefer a nice chunky hair slide for myself
I have very fine hair which is easily damaged or broken. I tend to put my hair up using a claw clip to save the damage from putting it in a pony tail. However, on the odd occasion when I want to put it in a pony tail, I use a scrunchie because it’s softer on the hair and doesn’t bunch it together as tightly as a hair elastic. It also looks more decorative.
I’m a curly haired scrunchie wearer. Normal bobbles/hair ties just get knotted and tangled up in my curls and pull too much giving me a headache.
Both daughters use scrunchies too and both have curls. Eldest daughter straightens her hair quite a bit and uses a regular bobble if she needs to put her hair up when straightened as she says scrunchies slide down and fall off when her hair is straight so scrunchie wearing may be a curly hair thing maybe?
Oh and I have been known to do my shopping (in Tesco and Waitrose) when wearing a scrunchie

I’ve been known to frequent Waitrose in mine too, no wonder I get funny looks sometimes, I’m sure I’m not quite the clientele most Waitrose shoppers prefer
Interesting re curly hair, mines not curly, just wavy and very thick and heavy and elastic bobbles are just nasty to use.
Louise my post is very tongue in cheek and I am going to look more closely next time I’m in Waitrose. I can usually be found there in Fish Friday as Tesco shut the fresh fish counter. I did buy prepacked Salmon once after that but it was slimy

Ps not had hair long enough to need anything since I was about 22. Mainly because I am useless at all types of hair putting up. I did have wild afro for several years. .I discovered I was referred to at the school when I picked my girls up as the lady with the mad hair

Husband has been dispatched to Tesco for milk as we’ve been away for a few days and the kids have gone milkshake mad while home alone and saved just the smallest of dribbles in the bottle. I’ve read your post out to him and he’s promised to keep an eye out for scrunchies and report back. This will be Tesco in Widnes so if anyone reading this will be there in the next hour and sees a man wandering about paying special attention to hairstyles please don’t report him to security

Louise @thestitchyroom … I wear a scrunchie…a ponytail and am 79…who cares…lol I refuse to conform and have a “Dot Cotton” hairdo…I agree though, my hair is thin and straight ( waist length) and scrunchies do tend to slip down…I wish they would make them with different size elastics…
