Matilda the yellow chick in a Box Frame.

A tiny yellow gingham chick with an appliqued wing has landed in a garden of cow parsley. This textile piece has been achieved using needle felting and hand embroidery. I have used frayed material for the grass creating a scene of stitched loveliness. Would make an ideal Mothersday gift Matilda would love to land on your wall and remind mum just how much you care.

Dimensions 12cm x 12cm.
Depth 3.5cm.

How about this lovely Oak bowl on a pedestal.
Lovely bowl turned from recycled Oak worktop sitting on a candy twist stem is turned from Whitebeam and sits on a Yew foot. The diameter of the bowl of is 140mm and it is 38mm deep, while the whole stands 101mm tall. As this piece is made from three separate turnings it did take some time to complete it but the three woods do complement each other. After sanding the item has been finished with beeswax and buffed to a soft sheen.

perhaps with some wrapped chocolates in it.

If mom loves knitting she will adore this Yarn Bowl.
This functional, heavy and highly decorative yarn bowl is turned from beautifully figured spalted beech. It is 201mm in diameter and stands 97mm tall. The ball of yarn stays in the bowl and the end feeds out of the stylish aperture so that the user can knit or crochet without constantly pausing to pull more yarn from the ball. After turning, the bowl was sanded smooth and finished with beeswax, ensuring that the wool feeds smoothly and does not catch on the wood. Spalting results from a form of fungus which often develops in horse chestnut and other woods after the tree has fallen over and is lying on the ground. Once the wood has been dried, however, the process is halted and the result is a beautiful natural, decorative effect which is entirely stable. One of nature’s little bonuses!
