It’s not just AI art that’s everywhere, AI generated descriptions are also rampant. They’re incredibly easy to spot, they all follow the same formula - lots of flowery adjectives, endless waffle about “perfect for gifting” and “adding a touch of charm”, and paragraphs that say very little about the actual handmade item.
I’d much rather read a short, authentic description written by the seller than AI spiel that’s obviously been copied and pasted.

It really puts me off, I’ve seen some very over the top descriptions for very simple items recently.
I would never get as far as purchasing as I can’t get past the first couple of lines.
How about this from Google AI re my caravan : I asked for an extra extra flowery and obviously AI listing and elevate had to be included: Question is will it sell my caravan

Great example. I always find AI posts and descriptions unreadable. They go on far too long. They remind me of a cross between the introductions on The Good Old Days tv show (if you remember that far back) and those dreadful video sales units in garden centres etc selling the latest silly gadget.

I used to work in the design dept of a large manufacturer and this is the type of “designer babble” some of the other designers trotted out at new product meetings.
I got caught rolling my eyes once. My boss (she who was babbling) was not amused…

Is anyone else already getting excited wondering what utter rubbishy non British Non handmade AI generated Temu bought in Drop shipped pieces will appear in the New Sellers from 5pm today being a long weekend and all that.
The problem is that hidden away in all that gumph you get truly lovely things and genuinely gorgeous shops but they get lost in the dross.
eg take a look at these shops with great potential which you probably missed them trying to scroll past things you didnt want to look at :

Simply stating that a product is not suitable for children under a certain age is not enough is it? Stating that they may have choking hazards for children under a certain age is not enough either is it? Without CE regs they can be classed as dangerous? I ask as I found some lovely dolls, but only found warnings and no mention of any regs… shame really as they really appealed to me for Xmas gifts … never mind I’ll carry on searching, I’m sure I’ll find what I’m looking for

No it’s not enough, I saw a shop last week, one item stated not for under 3 and SHOULD be ok for over five as they used safety eyes..I just shook my head, thought about messaging them but decided against it.

Well my curiosity got the better of me, and I messaged them asking if they had CE regs? Perhaps they are unaware,so hopefully this will prompt them to look into it especially when they know that they may have lost a sale because of it…

Hiya, thank you for caring so much about this.
Just to note that toy safety testing in the UK now uses UKCA, not CE. CE is the European requirement (plus NI) and the UK moved to our own regulations after Brexit.
They are virtually identical, and we are allowed to still use CE documents and labels for toys we tested under the old regs, so you may see sellers mentioning both.
