No noticeable smell but I can’t say I’ve sniffed it too closely (got that wrong on a couple of occasions sniffing things I’d made in the lab - learnt my lesson now). It came from Alex my tame lapidarist - he cuts all manner of things from the more normal jaspers through to vintage bowling balls via fordite, dino poo and whatever I’ve found that looks interesting (he cut/ polished some garnet in marble cabs for me from cobbles I picked up on the beach in New Zealand). no dino poo on there at the moment (this is a stone that has sat in my stash for a while until someone went ‘ooooooh’) but he does have fossilised dino bone (and some lovely lace agates but I’ve got far too many things in the stash so must resist).

Update - I’ve given it a good sniff and I’m not getting any aromatics from it.
Lol! I think agate is formed under heat and pressure, isn’t it, so I suppose there wouldn’t really be any smell. It would need to be fossilized in another way, I suppose. Your friend Alex sounds like a great person to know. I’ll check out his website
