I didn’t even realise they had forums I think as a buyer I am a little miffed also. I ordered some wax stamps, I only ever put ‘U.K. seller’ as I wanted them fast to make more silver pendants, they were listed as U.K. sellers but were not, over a week and still waiting on items. I think I’m still at a stage where my costs are higher than what I am making as I am still building up supplies etc. i will keep my Etsy open, but on all socials tag my Folksy store:)
I’m just starting out on Folksy too and slowly finding my feet. I do still have an Etsy shop and will keep it going, but I feel that it may not be quite the right place for my sort of items although I do sell enough to cover fees etc. I think Folksy may well be a better fit for my Art & craft work and I love the forums and friendly feel of Folksy. I think Folksy just feels like a whole lot more fun - more of a crafting community than a ‘impersonal selling machine’. It’s great hearing everyone’s news and stories and I’m really looking forward to the future on Folksy - I wonder where we’ll be in a year or so! I am still setting up my shop ‘fififoxi’ so haven’t yet asked for ‘help’ or critiques but I will soon. By the way, I do like your shop especially the enameled collection - very colourful.
Yes, I did. I closed my Etsy shop two years ago. I much prefer the culture here than the highly competitive one over there.
I’m on Etsy and sell on there occasionally, I was looking to close Etsy at one point and only sell on Folksy as it is a U.K. makers site however, I have not sold anything on Folksy since September last year, my listings are expiring and I don’t feel like adding anything else at the moment.
I advertise on Facebook and Instagram regularly and have even tried a couple of reels recently. I have no idea what the answer is with online selling!
Sorry, I think they are updating Folksy so many of my pages look a little weird I will hopefully take a look at your shop after replying:) I totally agree, it has a really lovely community feel here, I think it’s as positive as you want it to be and if we join in with things that again can make a huge difference. Hopefully in a years time we have made many many sales, I will give you a follow:)
I think I am going to leave it just a little longer, but I have changed all my socials to my Folksy store now, hopefully I will be doing the same:)
I totally agree, it really is a mystery, it almost feels like you have to hit the jackpot with finding your following. I do make TikTok videos, reels baffle me I think we just have to keep posting, keep grafting and hoping our people find us:)
Welcome and can I say that you are likely to do very well with your business…because…you have accepted with grace, all the help and information that people on here have given you. That is a brilliant start
Some people just open a shop, post and run.
There are a lot of very experienced people on here and there is always help available.
Good Luck x
Hello Brenda,
Thank you very much, honestly I love advice because people are more experienced and only trying to help. The advice today has helped me so much, I will be going over all my listings tomorrow to tweak them and be making a list of hashtags. You can either listen to wiser people or spend many months lagging because you ‘know better’ I feel with Folksy I have found my place, I love it here, it’s so welcoming:)
Good luck with your shop. I opened an E** stop some years ago when Folksy seemed a bit slow. Sold a few things, went on holiday and came back to find that E*** were changing their rules and payments and lots of things… so left that shop on holiday then Folksy got nice and busy and my E** shop is still on holiday… (and will be for ever probably :))
I’d love to switch completely to over here but I sell regularly on Etsy and don’t even drive any traffic there. I drive all my traffic here and onto TBCH but it doesn’t seem to make any difference with sales. I seem to have most sales on Etsy, so until that balance shifts, then I’m stuck with it.
I can see why, you stay where the sales are for sure, I hope that changes for you:))
I would love to but that is where my sales are. I get very little from here but I do love folksy.
A lot of people say about the fees (and yes I know they take commission on the postage too whereas folksy don’t) but etsy currently take 5% commission - going up to 6.5% in April and folksy take 6% + vat so I’ve never seen the fees as much of an issue to be honest and as that’s where my sales are, I’d say I get much more for my money.
Folksy is just so much more friendly and has more of a true handmade feel about it.
The problem I’m finding with Etsy, is to be found I need to pay fees to run ads. I do the usual social media round but if I don’t run ads I do not even get one view on Etsy
I would love to leave etsy too, but that’s where my sales are too.
i much prefer folksy, so this year i intend to tell all my customers that i’m here, so hopefully i can push more sales to folksy, sue x
Yes that would certainly bump the fees up. I’ve never paid for ads and I do have the odd quiet spell but even the quiet spells are reasonably good.
Welcome! Much prefer it here and I do have a shop on E. But like others have said, low sales here. I’d love it to be the other way around. I did have a sale at the beginning of Feb and was so pleased!
But I hope you do well. So good luck
I’ve never paid for ads on E either, and did OK in the early days. Then I stopped selling to US and elsewhere and sell only to UK now. Have really noticed a dip in sales since, but that was my choice so I’ll live with it for now.
I don’t blame you for stopping oversees sales, I have sent a few mugs to the USA, the postage almost made me cry
Thank you very much @Amberlilly I hope you continue to do well, I think it’s also tough times to sell with price hikes etc. Rough times ahead I think.
