I know what you mean about retaking. I recently upgraded to folksy plus to using the opportunity to overhaul my crappy pics whilst adding in my new extra pics. Very hard with two small kids and terrible weather though!
Hi Catherine
Totally. I’ve rearranged the order of my photos so the least busy photo is first.
Plus I’ve rearranged the order of my listings.
I’ll make an effort to take more plain images in future. Although this sounds counter intuitive to me, others think this will help so I’ll give it a go, my sales can’t get much worse.
I’ll see how it goes.
Thanks.
@handmadebylzzie Just a quickie as the pinger is going on the oven so dinner is ready.
I notice all the listings on the top line of your shop just say ‘customer gift box’ or something like that. I’m pretty sure that nobody would be searching Folksy for that. You need to make sure your titles actually say what you are selling. xxx
I think everything has been covered already but one small thing jumped out at me. Some of your copper pieces look white to me? (especially the square studs - I thought they were white enamelled). Copper is such a beautiful colour, maybe try playing with the lighting a bit so you get those rich copper tones coming through. You have some lovely items and they look very well made. Good luck.
That’s pretty much the same as my experience…
Hi bimblebird
Thank you. I didn’t think of that. I will certainly keep that in mind in future.
Fuzzibug.
I suspect you are taking your photos in full artificial light which will give a hue to the background of everything. I know if I leave it too late in the day to photograph my glass the background goes blue… and I usually have to redo again next day.
PLUS Please remove this from your about me
“Thank you for visiting my humble shop.
(we’ve all got to start somewhere right)”
You are trying to sell something to people who will be paying you their money. You don’t want to sound as if they are doing you a favour instead be proud of your makes as something someone would want to possess.
Hi joysofglass,
Thank you for your advice.
I get what you’re saying, its all about confidence. I don’t have a huge amount and find it hard to “sell myself”.
My photos are done with my mobile phone in natural light (hard on some miserable days) but then i use my phones basic features to try and adjust the photos to make them look as best as i think they can.
I was thinking on getting a lightbox to see if that makes a difference, i don’t know what peoples experiences are with them?
I will adjust the wording on my about page to be a bit more confident.
Thanks again.
All this advice is really welcomed from everyone.

If you have access to a laptop/computer try editing your photos with a free photo editor.
Windows comes with a perfectly serviceable one with easy to use sliders.
Pretty a free graphics editor like GIMP which has powerful tools to manipulate images but can be heavy on the learning side.
My photos are getting better with making some adjustments but I still have a long way to go.
Also. From my limited experience, I would suggest patience with your sales- they will grow.
Confidence and Boldness - be proud of your creativity.
And don’t be afraid of mistakes. Forge ahead.
I use Snapseed which is free and not too bad. Fairly easy to use. You can also pick up quite cheap photo light boxes on the big online sales platforms, just need to shop around.
Hi bimblebird
Thanks I’ll take a look.

I’ve just had a quick look at your shop and your Gift boxes collection is quite ambiguous.
I honestly thought you were selling just the boxes.
The contents should be the star of the show and the packaging is the clincher, to be shown at the end.
