I’ve just finished a few pieces for a new collection, Myriad, which has multicoloured decorative bands on black clay. I’ve just added this vase as the first piece and will be adding more soon. The decoration is done with sponged slip (liquid coloured clay), with incised linear decoration through the slip to expose the black clay beneath. This is known as sgraffito decoration. Then two firings of 11 hours each to mature the clay and glaze. It’s a slow process!
