That’s a great idea Dee, I’ll try and remember to take some shots.
My enjoyment for gardening grows more every year! Usually we go out and buy our bedding plants, but because we’re staying indoors we will be growing lots from seed. Thankfully our garden is pretty established so we just need to fill the spaces around our existing plants. Last year I grew Goliath/autumn sunflowers and sweet peas, this year I’m planning to grow more veg/salad plants We have 3 guinea pigs and they love dandelions! So I ended up collecting and putting them into pots to create their own growing salad garden ~
I’m still a beginner to gardening, so can someone tell me if petunias grow back or are they a one time thing? Took me ages to weed the garden this year because I didn’t want to accidentally pull out any potential flowers ~
Hi Gemma @IdentraCraft in my experience petunias don’t come back but I live in the cold north I always weed around a newcomer to the garden just in case it decides to stay another year!
That’s what I thought because the only answer I could find online was about the flower heads themselves growing back and not the plant, although I did come across something small that looked like the leaves of a petunia so I planted it in a small pot just in case My mum planted lots of lobelia last year, so it was quite a challenge to weed all around them ~
My way of gardening is ‘if in doubt, leave it’ as I prefer the natural look, much to my dad’s aggravation whose lawn is like a bowling green
Whilst weeding in my garden yesterday I came across a buried walnut, and then another thing that look like a chestnut, then I realised they may have been buried by a squirrel, maybe someone had left over nuts at Christmas and left them out for the squirrels. We do sometimes see them as there are lots of trees in the houses nearby.
Hi everyone
I’ve out weeding this morning, did half of the garden another half to do another day. This is the first of my new tulips to bloom, the other’s are on their way.
I’ve never had a Petunia return and I’m in the south. Someone, somewhere may have though. @IdentraCraft
Yes, always remember sunscreen. My OH has just had a small skin cancer removed and he’s remembered to put some on today.
It is icy cold here today and we have had hail and snow showers so no gardening for me today!
I am not one for a manicured garden. Which is good as it’s quite big! I garden for wildlife and every year this includes leaving almost all of the lawn to flower (it used to be a corner of a field 30 odd years ago).
Here’s my little girl enjoying it last year.
Oh gosh! Your garden is beautiful Jessica! And so is your little girl. I would like to think that my garden is a wildlife haven as well. It is an extension of the local woods which my garden backs onto, so sadly I am inundated with nettles, brambles and bracken that I try to keep at bay every year with weeding. I now have two lambies who are almost a year old (so they will no longer be lambs, and technically become sheep) who are supposed to live here and eat the stuff, but they still live at the farm where they were orphaned, and are now supposed to be eating that grass.
Ahh yes nettles! We have had quite a few as they grow on the field boundary that surrounds our garden. We remove them where they are choking flowering plants left for the pollinators (many would consider those weeds too😬) but there are plenty in the field for all the butterflies that like them. Our biggest problem is the wild rabbits that have their burrows under the trees at the bottom of the garden. They eat so many wild flowers it’s ridiculous! Luckily Mr Stoat makes regular visits.
I’ve been sorting through some packs of seeds and found a few that I’ve got free with magazines over the years which are still viable, but I’m not likely to use.
If anyone would like them, please send me a DM with your name and address and I’ll send them to you.
I’ve also got a couple of packets of cherry tomatoes, if anyone wants them give me a shout.
First come first served!
Hi All, I was talking to a friend of mine yesterday and we were discussing how many people seem to be taking up fruit and veg growing and whether are likely to continue once things get “back to normal”. I thought a lot would but she didn’t. So any new growers - what do you think are you likely to contiune?
What a gorgeous garden and little girl. Is she making daisy chains?
Your garden is amazing Jessica @jessicagoulty - your little one seems very happy in it
Chris @ChrisOsbornJewellery - I’ve ordered some veg seeds but am going to have to grow in containers (due to my free raoming bunny!) - wether I do it again will depend upon a) how easy it is and b) how successful I am!
I’ve always wanted a veg plot but this has just prompted me to do it a bit sooner!
No, she just decided to sit down for a chat to the bees. She was only 15 months at this point so it was mostly baby talk. Luckily I had my camera to hand ( for once!). She loves pointing out all the different birds in the garden now and she’s got a good memory for the names. The only problem now is trying to get her to stop shouting where’s my willies instead of wellies
Ha ha that is funny. A nature girl - how precious
