Thank you everyone. His first night went well, he seems like a really chilled out little guy. We love him already… and he loves his new dad, like I knew he would. Two boys against me in the house now!
Utterly adorable! I hope you will be very happy with your new companion. Keep us posted!
I hope everyone’s rescue dogs are giving as much pleasure as our two. Tim (in front) is the newest one and had such a tough start but it’s wonderful to see him blossoming, learning to play and getting more confident every day. His favourite thing - snuffling in the woods.
Hi Carrie
Rather late with this post but
They are lovely dogs. Are they from Romania.?
We have one that looks similar.
Hi. I have seen a couple of Romanian dogs that look similar to ours but no, these are Greek dogs - Kokoni or varieties of Kokoni! Soli (at the back) is from Chios island. I brought him back from there as a tiny, sickly little abandoned thing. Tim (front) is from Cyprus. A charity had rescued him as a street stray with a broken leg left to heal by itself and brought him to the UK for a couple. But he quickly got put in Battersea dogs home, maybe because he wasn’t house-trained and stole food off the table Daft if so because he’s such a fast learner and wants to please. We adore them both
How exciting. My daughter has rescue Boxers and also works for Boxer Rescue. She is a member of several FB rescue pages, specific to her area and also to her breed so I think that would be a really thing good idea if you use Facebook. So much helpful advice on there.
Thanks very much for all the information, Carrie. I have not heard of Kokoni breed. I am pleased because we and everyone that meets her have been wondering what breed Lexie is. So at last I think she must have kokoni in her. She certainly has a bushy tail and likes to put out her paws to you. She is also a very good guard dog, even though she is small!
I am biased but she is the nicest dog we have ever had.
What do you think, does she have kokoni in her?
Lexie looks a darling:-) How lucky you found each other. It sounds like she has a great personality.
There does seem to be a similar look with my two. Tim is smaller, with a more pointy snout than Soli but they share the kokoni type of fluffy tail, ‘go-faster’ furry elbows, flop-over furry ears and long-haired back legs (or fluffy trousers as I call them)! Soli’s tail is a ridiculous waving fan of fur which amazes me as it was a tiny hairless rat’s tail when I found him
As I was reminded of this thread, I wondered how you were getting on with Pedro? After 7 months he must feel very settled and at home!
Hi @Llosgi ! Well things with little Pedro didn’t work out with us - long story cut short: he had a skin illness which meant he kept chewing off his own hair, and my asthmatic hubby turned out to have a serious allergy to that… Luckily we knew someone who had wanted Pedro before us, so he got a new home straight away & is now healthy & happy by the sea (it took months to sort out his skin issue which the rescue charity said they had never known about… but that’s another story)! I was proper heartbroken but as it turned out, I had a stroke myself not long after, so wouldn’t be able to properly care for a dog right now anyway. One day we will look at rescuing a little doggie again but that’s a long time away. In the meantime I just look at other people’s dogs, and get to play with my neighbour’s one who is also a rescue😊
Ahh thanks, she is a cutie, as are your two. A lovely beach by the looks of it too!
You have described her so well. We always laugh at her fluffy pantaloons! Do either of yours have double dew claws on as well?
Heres another photo.
It would seem that all the nicest people are animal lovers and artists/crafters as well.
we had a rescue dog too and my advice is the same as above…lots of love, understand and training classes…so that they learn the boundaries on their behaviour…
Don’t shout at them when they are naughty but let them know if they have done something wrong and NEVER hit them…
enjoy your dog many happy and loving times ahead.
Oh I’m sorry to rake up what must have been a really stressful time for you! I’m sure Pedro is perfectly happy but I really hope your own health is better now. The right dog will come along at the right time for you, I’m sure.
Omg he I see beautiful, how could you not fall in love with that face.
Hats off to you for adopting a rescue dog!, x
