The guide dog puppy lady said YES!

Several months ago I applied to be a guide dog puppy walker, which means raising a guide dog puppy from 7 weeks til around 12 to 14 months. After many hiccups with my references going missing in the post, I’ve finally had my home interview and they’ve accepted us onto the scheme!

:grinning: :grinning: :grinning:

We have to wait now for a suitable puppy to come available, which will be October at the earliest. Meanwhile we can start going to their puppy classes to observe their training regime, start scouring the charity shops for stair gates etc. and get the house puppy-proofed.

Exciting times!

Ah that’s great!! Such a fab thing to do as well! I’m sure it’ll be loads of fun and keep you on your toes- and I guess while it will be sad to see them go at the end of it, at least you know they’ll be going to help change someone’s life! So that’s awesome! Well done! And yeah…we won’t say no to seeing cute photos and getting updates! Haha

Hehe try stopping me from giving you pupdates and puppy overload! He/she will be only 7 weeks old on arrival - an absolute baby! Seems very young to me but I guess they know what they’re doing. I’ve been googling how to make a puppy papoose as we have to carry it everywhere to begin with. What a shame I will have to do all that cuddling

Aww that’s amazing news ! ALWAYS been a big supporter of Guide Dogs and the fabulous work they do from sponsoring puppies, buying from the dogalogue, adding them into my will, supporting events and petitions etc - can’t wait to hear how you get on and see LOTS of photos ! Denise

Can i just say how valuable puppy walkers are. My son got matched with a guide dog when he was sixteen. He on top of his severe visual impairment had such bad anxiety and no social life. He literally sat in his bedroom most of the time. Now after an amazing two years at college and his gorgeous lab retriever cross he has so many friends and is about ro start uni . Something we never would dream of happening. His confidence has grown so much… and it really is all down to his amazing dog goving him the confidence to get out there and do …well life really …
So thank you xxx

So heart warming <3 thank you for sharing - when the time comes to say goodbye to our pup it will help me to remember stories like yours. There will be many tears but we know he/she will be going on to do a wonderful job.

There is no news yet on when our puppy will arrive. I’m hoping they give a few weeks notice so that we can thoroughly puppy proof the house first!

Pup pup pup pup PUP!

Apologies in advance for the quantity of exclamation marks in this post…can you tell I’m excited?

So we’ve been assigned a pup (!) she’s only 18 days old at the moment and has no name as yet. She has to take a confidence test at 6 weeks old which involves going through a tunnel when called - if she passes the test then she’ll be given a name and will be with us just over a week later on the 8th November. If she fails the confidence test then she’ll be diverted to disability dogs instead.

And I can’t believe this, but I’ve gone into nesting mode. Who’d have thought it? This morning I emptied the bedding box and am busy washing everything. Mad huh? It’s not a baby, it’s a puppy!

Well Tilly arrived on Tuesday and I have absolutely no idea where the last 2 days have gone! She’s 8 week old and truly adorable, except at night when she cries and howls on and off pretty much all night long. Poor baby, she must be missing her 10 siblings.

And this is her first portrait

I’m sure soon she’ll settle at night as she gets use to her new surrounding & all the fuss & love you guys give to her. Love to see more pics of her and hope her guidedog training goes well.
