Autumn is the perfect time of year to see Red Squirrel and the Wildlife Trust has launched Red Squirrel Week in celebration of these beautiful creatures and to raise awareness for they’re conservation efforts.
I thought it would be lovely to celebrate these beautiful little creatures with a showcase to see everyone’s fabulous squirrel creations. I’ll kick start off with one of my little squirrel prints. To find out more about Red Squirrel week visit the Wildlife Trust’s website.
I just go nuts at the (grey) squirrel rather than using them in my designs. S/he is currently picking all the filberts off the tree in the front garden, running along the fence with them and burying them in my flower beds.

I had a close encounter with a red squirrel this summer as I sat quietly taking photos of bee eaters in France. It came out of a tree behind me and sat less than 1/4 of a metre away, beautiful.
Helen your so very welcome, the WT do a fabulous job!!! I’m lucky enough to be heading to Wales in a few weeks to visit some reserves down there…really looking forward to it.
Oh deer @SashaGarrett, hope the little grey leaves some filberts for you. I ended up planting more fruit bushes to share with my birds as they keep stripping them all before i even gotta out of bed.
Unfortunately were i live surrounds by fields on the fens i very rarely see squirrels, lots of other animals though. I normally travel to Scotland Perthshire area to watch red squirrels frolic & get up to mischief. There is one that lives in the tree outside the cottage we rent up there so i’m lucky enough to get very close views.
It’s lovely to hear everyone’s close encounters with these beautiful wee creatures. I first fell in love with squirrels as a child watching Tufty, it was a while before i got to see one in the wild.
