Im so thrilled to have been shortlisted as a finalist for young business person of the year in my local town… this just a few months after my giftshop won a retail award.
I got a call from our county newpaper this morning to let me know… its a total honor.
got my email about buying tickets… sadly i cant afford the £70 ticket price . Which means i cant afford to go … who knows maybe ill get a rush of orders in time
Congratulations, great news on being shortlisted. Seems wrong that you can’t attend because having to pay for a ticket. After all it would not have necessarily been something you attended if it wasn’t for being nominated. Shame you don’t get a free ticket or seriously reduced.
I would get in touch with the organisers and explain it’s too much for you. Or why not contact the newspaper that told you and get them to run a feature and drop in that you’d love to go to the award ceremony but it’s too pricey!
congratulations for being nominated, this has happened to Hubby we were nominated for 3 awards but couldn’t afford 2 tickets at £250 each so sat in the reception of the hotel where it was held and waited for it to be announced on twitter. Not the same but as we lost out to the main sponsor of the event relieved to have saved the money.
Why not write to the organiser stating you cant afford the price of the ticket so need to nominate someone else to collect the award if you are successful, they may be able to offer a discount or pay for the ticket for you, you know the old saying “if you don’t ask you don’t get”. If that doesn’t work try the local paper.

thank you all guys. all the shortlisted people will be announced on the 15th , so im gonna wait till then , and email thanking them for the nomination and to be considered , but the ticket isn’t with in my budget. I would have loved to have gone but stock for the shop is priority.
xxxx I will keep you all posted , on the off chance I win xxx
@leathermeister You lost out to the main sponsor of the event…? I hate to be a wet blanket, but that sounds like a scam to me.
I’ve been nominated for several writing awards, but not once was I asked to pay to attend the award ceremony. Quite the reverse, in fact, as free food and drink was provided at all of them!
We think it was fixed too, especially as one of the awards was for best product ours are all handmade leather fit for purpose and their products are Chinese mass produced item put into their branded box. They even announced a recount as the numbers were so close, think that meant we won but that wouldn’t do. As an Independant company its virtually impossible to stand against the American multi nationals we certainly don’t have access to the funds they do, but at least they know who we are.
Well done… can you imagine the announcement… and the winner is Baudelaire Bazaar. Unfortunately they are unable to be here this evening because (dramatic pause)
they couldn’t afford the tickets !!!
Anyone who has been nominated for an award should get a free ticket. It won’t be much of an evening if none of the winners are there because they can’t afford to go .
I don’t know whether to congratulate you or not. If it was a valid company doing the award you wouldn’t have to pay for your ticket. I once supposedly won a competition for a makeover, got all excited and my husband took me, only to discover we had buy at least one photo. Shan’t be doing that again
hehehe thanks everyone for your comments.
it has been organised by the county paper so im sure its fine and happening. I am happy to be nominated , like @snollygoster said that is enough for me.
a friend who runs a local business has also been nominated and I feel a dead cert to win ( she has achieved so much and deserves it) so im happy with my decision . xxx
