Just fell off my chair

If you drill down into the ads you will see that the ones that they rotate through are items that are also featured in the “Our favourite finds on Folksy”, and as I have mentioned on more than one occasion, I am at a loss as to how you manage to be in favour with the Folksy Staff that choose these.

The search has been the same for awhile too. Click on search and same products come up. I do find it a bit frustrating why this is happening. I see the same gloves and same mug at least.

I hate that search. The look of it. So…Clumsy… and the display of the items before it finds if you are lucky what you are looking for… :frowning:
And… I touch type, fast …so I start typing in the little bar top right on my laptop and as I type it changes to that full in your face display of woolly gloves and things I am getting so fed up with seeing AND it misses off the first character or two I had typed in the little top right bar so I have to start all over again…
This was me starting to type Suncatcher.

I stopped typing when I saw it had missed the SU… and got this wonderful display… :frowning:
And honestly if I were a customer, new or otherwise, and saw the full set of things I was presented with on that particualr page full (5 from one shop of which 2 were duplications, 3 from another, 2 from 2 others :frowning: ) which I will not show as that would be unfairly calling out… I would click that top right X to close the window and head to a different site…never to return…

PS I am well aware that i got that random selection because it was stupidly searching for “nc” so most people would not get that … they would get the 20 things from the favourites but of those 20 I am getting currently there are then only 18 shops represented as 2 shops have 2 things … That is soooo unfair to the other 3973 shops… Could it not at least be reprogrammed to show a moving feast of the favourites as it does on the front page ?

I’m sure I read somewhere on here that the Folksy staff were looking into ways of ‘de-clumping’ the search to make it more appealing to buyers (and fairer to sellers)… meanwhile I’m just happy to see a Folksy ad on FB whether it’s for knitting or whatever, it’s putting the Folksy name out there to (we hope) a bigger audience, some of whom possibly DO need a knitted hot water bottle cover and will then come here and discover that they need a bunch of other nice handmade items too. You have to be an optimist in this game

I know. I wonder if they can explain why the same shops are always there. It’s very unfair.

Lynn Indeed it is good to see Folksy ads at last. My point above though was not really about the repeat appearance but the clumsy, unappealing overall look of that search screen.
I have no idea why it is done like that… so you start with a neat little bar to type in and suddenly it jumps to that full line (Surely not needed as nobody searches with such a long search term  ) and usually missing the first characters you typed and suddenly you are also confronted by all those miscellanous flying objects.

Has anyone else tried typing quickly into the intial search bar to see what i am talking about ?
This was my woolly sock search

PS I always spell woolly the English way not the single L American spelling. which I’ve seen quite a few times on here recently.

I have also been a victim of the search engine brutally ignoring the first few letters of my search, with the first few times leaving me in absolute confusion of why I am seeing the things I am seeing since I never searched for them, and then I realised what was going on. I now click on the search field and patiently wait for it to do its favourite switch to the big search field, then I type my 3-4 words maximum to search for something. And yes, I too am annoyed of seeing the same items appearing on my screen every time I want to search for something, to the point that I started wondering what I need to do to appear there  But that’s me I guess, being awkward and not wanting watching the same items all the time. I hope I helped

Just glad it’s not just me

So far I haven’t had the problem of the search truncating my typing - this is probably a reflection on my typing speed - but I agree that is an issue if it’s doing it to a lot of people. I don’t think the search screen looks that bad but then I’m coming from 15 years of the E…y search which has a search bar across most of the width of the screen, doesn’t necessarily show me what I searched for, and even when it does there are currently six or even seven lines of info under each image so I can only just see two rows of items at a time. On Folksy it looks much cleaner and less ‘hard selling’ and I can see three rows of listing pictures (that’s 50% more and when you’re a visual searcher that’s very significant!). If Folksy could just sort out the ‘clumping’ issue in a way that is fair to everybody, I would have no issue with its search screen. I have fingers firmly crossed that they will find a way…

Now that the ads have been going for nearly a week, do you feel you have gained from them?

I’ve looked at my stats daily and I don’t see any difference. I’d had 2 sales this month before they started - 2 sales a month feels like I’ve hit the jackpot!!! But none this week (this month on E so far 26 sales with no promotion from me)

Made no difference to me, (my stats or my sales). My sales are up this month but this is not down to Folksy ads or events, as every single one of them is my already trusted customers that I directed to Folksy a few months back instead of buying directly, plus 1 that came from my facebook posts. I do want to hope though that it will make difference to some others, and get the name out there :crossed_fingers:

Would be great for the name to get out there, for me I won’t be able to justify the plus account if sales don’t increase. I told myself that if I could get 5 sales a month it would justify keeping the olus account

I cancelled my plus account a while ago and to be honest I was worried that it may have a negative effect on my account, but its made zero difference to my views or sales so can’t see me going back to a plus account anytime soon. In fact its had a much bigger impact on my mental health because I’ve stopped worrying about having to get enough sales to cover the cost, not saying it would work for everyone, obviously if you’ve a lot of items in your shop it makes sense to have the plus account, same with those who get plenty of sales but it definitely works for me personally.

I also stopped my plus account just before the increase was announced, as the total of my listings & the re-listings every month is well under the subscription fee. When I end up having so many listings that will cost me more than the subscription fee, or will have listings that require bigger quantity, I will go back to plus, but at the moment it’s not suitable for my shop.

Thats good to know about views and sales. And I can relate to the worry of covering costs. If I don’t see the sales I won’t renew the plus account, and when items need renewing I will reduce quantities to 1

It’s made no difference to me. I have had 2 sales (1st 2 since Feb) but I think that’s down to having a massive sale on older stock rather than the folksy add.

I’m getting slightly more of my views from Facebook compared with, say, a month ago, but I have no idea whether that’s linked to the Folksy ads - unlikely I think, as to my knowledge I don’t have any listings featured in them. However, overall my views, visits and sales are well up on last month and as the vast majority of my traffic says it comes from Folksy, maybe the ads are bringing more viewers to the site in general and then they’re finding my items once they’re here?
