Knitting pig - Not an animal - craft equipment

Has anyone seen a knitting pig for sale that’s made in the UK. The only one I can find is made in the USA at $28 but it’s not made in UK and they do not ship to the UK.

In case you are wondering what a knitting pig is, it’s a wooden clamp that has a metal loop that your yarn goes through, you can fasten the clamp to a basket there by turning your basket in to a yarn bowl

I’ve never heard of it, had to look it up, but what a lovely thing it is. Perhaps there’s a woodworking person here who could turn their hand to something like this if no-one is making them in the UK.

I’ve heard of one before but haven’t seen them for sale anywhere. When it comes to woodwork, I always recommend Les @testwoodwoodcraft who kindly made something for me in the past and always enjoys a challenge!

Thanks for the recommendation, I will keep hi in mind.

The knitting pig has an advantage over a yarn bowl because if you are using a really large ball of yarn you just clip it to a larger basket.

Have you seen this Canadian one, looks like it ships to U.K.
But not U.K. made.

Thanks for taking the time to post the link but I prefer made in the UK

I know Alan @ccbandatp is a wood turner so I don’t know if this is something he could help with?

Ah now if Alan made these they could put it together with one of Anne’s baskets what a combo that would be. Not that I need a basket just a knitting pig lol

That would be an amazing idea!

Interesting little device , fairly simple in design so will make a couple and pop in shop

Thank you Sue and Hilary - but Alan retired from wood turning at the end of last year and sold all his tools. There are lots of other excellent woodturners on Folksy if you do a search - and Les from @testwoodwoodcraft is already on with the idea. Looks a great little device :grinning:

It was Hilary - and he would have made one as he did quite a few ‘tools’ for other crafters in his time. Thank you for thinking of him. :grinning:

Could you use a yarn bowl instead?

I could but a knitting pig does give more adaptability as you can clip it to various sized containers.
