HI All - very interesting question and thread - thank you.
Think I may change my postage to normal RM after Christmas! x
You can change your postage costs in one (or two) easy steps using the ābulk edit listingsā option on your dashboard. Click on it and then select the items you want to change from the list that will appear, then click on the āset postage costsā button at the top of the page, fill in the new details and hit save. No need to edit each item individually.
I usually send 1st recorded on the smaller items, and guess what, just had a parcel gone missing, but it was signed for and printed in the persons name, so iām waiting to see what happens now, she was in a block of flats and moved on Sunday, I guess iāll have to contact RM tomorrow and report it, not sure what they will do though as itās been signed for, can any one give me a clue ?
Oh yeah, well when I post my artwork itās Ā£4.40 to post, then thereās Ā£3 for the sturdy tube and then technically a percentage of the tissue paper in there, the ink to print the receipt, various other bits & bobs, getting to the PO, any other fees. But Iād never charge for all that. I charge a flat Ā£5 generally for postage. I know Iām taking the hit & absorbing the cost, but thinking about my own view & many of those Iāve asked, people would be very reluctant to pay more & may be put off altogether. So I just absorb the costs from the profit on my sale.
I definitely know where youāre coming from though! Itās a hard one to judge sometimes. And personal preference too I suppose.
Though not helped I donāt think by the flat cheap rates of postage most big shops/brands post at, as customers are so used to the postage being affordable theyāre reluctant to pay more elsewhere. (Me included- even though Iām aware of the costs!) haha
Wondering why I bother with signed for. Rarely use it but did last week as needed to ensure it was taken to the door and not just left in the bin and arrived on a specific day. Posted Friday first class small package signed for.
Tracking still shows as not got very far from my local post office.
Contacted customer to check - Customer has received the package.
Think Iām going to complain to Royal Mail (they gave me the postage back last time so might as well especially as I accidentally undercharged postage as it was heavier than I expected and went over the 1kg price Iād charged)
I got so fed up with paying for signed for only to have it not turn up that I started complaining, and each time a signature wasnā t taken Royal Mail would send me 6 first class stamps!
(I didnāt claim often as I rarely check the tracking!)
Having said that, I only use signed for on parcels over Ā£29.
