The price of silver has more than doubled since my last order. On 5 May last year it was £21.10 an oz - today it is £50.37 an oz - I won’t mention politics.
I have not updated my prices to reflect this huge increase as money for luxuries will only reduce. The only alternative is to to call it a day.
I will be closing my shop for the foreseeable future from 1 Jan 2026.
I’m sorry to hear it too. Your work’s lovely, it’s such a shame. I haven’t bought silver either since July ‘24 - it’s not really do-able anymore, is it? Most of my listings are due to expire immanently, and after that I’m taking the selling offline. Good luck in whatever comes next for you Julie x
That is a real shame to hear. Your items are really nice. All the best for future endeavours.
I am a hobbyist silversmither and I stopped buying silver when the price rocketed. I have a little bit left and after that I won’t be buying unless the price comes back down.
Aww that’s dreadful to hear of such a massive increase. I hope you will continue to create maybe in a different form and wish you all the very best going forward. I hope you enjoy the Christmas break and have a good new year too xx
It’s such a shame it’s getting harder to make any kind of profit, the price of mohair has really rocketed the last few years. Wishing you all the best for the future.
Sorry to hear your news. I have said many times on the forum how much silver has gone up in price. The same has happened to gemstones. I have a substantial amount of gemstones and 925 sterling silver findings in stock, however, once I have made everything into jewellery I will not be purchasing anymore materials. I just can’t afford to. The general public in general are totally oblivious to what is going on behind the scenes when they parooze through our shops. All they care about these days is how cheap can they get quality for. Then there’s selling slashing their prices to try to make a sale, which actually has a negative effect by devaluing not only their own work but everyone else’s. The knitting is even more soul destroying, achieving less than £2.00 per hour in labour charges.
