Hi Hazel

I’ve never come across painting in wax before and I’m intrigued! Do you use a brush or one of those doo dads like you would use for batik? Do you mix your own waxes? Cor so many questions! Last one lol - do you have a website where I can read about your paintings rather than ask loads of questions

I’m here… https://twitter.com/GwinKerry

Hi Gwin

Yes I have a website and I’m a very keen blogger so there is lots of information online about me and my Art In Wax www.artinwax.co.uk

There are also lots of videos of me painting so you can see how I do it !!

I don’t create my own wax I use two different formula of wax, depending on the support and technique I am using - in the UK and Europe a style of painting in Encaustic onto a gloss card with a wax especially for this purpose is very popular. In the US it is more popular to work with deeper layers of wax onto supports such as wood and panels when I paint in this style - I work in both styles - I use a handmade wax paint from the US which has a damar resin mix and takes several weeks to cure where as when working into card that wax is dry in minutes.

Both methods are great fun !!! I use lots of tools in my work, I do use paint brushes sometimes but also hot irons and stylus tools, hot air and a hot plate, there are pictures of my studio on the blog

Have you ever seen an Encaustic painting in real life ? They have a great sheen as many people here can testify that online photos don’t do them justice
