You are welcome, Its no biggie I myself have done it by accident… well more so when I had a brain fart moment. lol
That’s a good idea!
I agree - I did an event at the weekend and spent all weekend explaining to people about Folksy - not one had heard of it. Such a shame as the items on Folksy are all amazing.
Sadly I see no reason, no reason at all why that would ever be the case.
Sellers join full of hope, Some sell and stay, some sellers don’t sell and leave, active shop numbers stay the same.
Folksy getting known ? It is the same old, same old as it has been for all the years I’ve been here and that is 15. In fact Etsy only started a very few years before that… obviously a more successful business model …hmmmmmm
PS Please do not bother commenting that this comment is negative. I actually Do sell, Hey ho back in the BS list again but low sales figure needed to get me there is errrrrrr… surprisingly low and most of that is from one of my very regular repeat customers.
Not sure I can include any of the many copyright items or the S&M things currenlly listed for sale in that and just hope none of my customers are put off if they come across them.
I do not think you are being negative Joy just truthful.
Folksy advertises as a family friendly site, atm needs to be censored as not applicable for under 18, in fact change that as not applicable for any age. This is not the place for this type of product, suggest they try EBay.
This type of thing along with copyright items gives Folksy a bad name but even after reporting they are still there.
Before anyone has a go at me I love Folksy but despair at times that things like bought in, copyright items and the unmentionable are never acted on. We want to preserve the cute country feel of Folksy, where genuine beautiful handmade items are sold to customers that love to visit and browse.
As well as reporting items like these to admin, i am nowreporting the worst copyright offenders to the relevant rights holders. It sometimes takes a bit of Googling to find a contact but can be done. I always suggest that if the seller isn’t licenced the rights holder should contact Admin. Then they can be put on the What you Can’t sell List and will be removed.
Though the bdsm stuff is clearly adult in nature and against the rules anyway so i don’t know why thats still here as a numbet of us have reported it.
I always report as find, like you Helen. As Folksy did nothing have reported to the likes of Disney and Marvel etc. easy enough to do.
holding my hands up I did make a couple of items using character fabrics however as soon as I realised the fabric was copyright I removed the items and donated them to the local nursery / gave to friends and guess what this morning I spotted another 2 items I had made that was also copyright fabric, these will also be donated to our local nursery.
I will have to pay better attention to fabrics and google to see if they are copyright protected before purchasing in future, as my children are fully grown I do not always know about new cartoon characters so will have to rely on googling or avoid any sort of character fabric in future.
t’s not your things Sue. Those are accidental.
It’s the blatant and total disregard of some shops which rely on selling copyright things, as if it doesn’t matter.
Well it does !
I just find Folksy the most intuitive listing platform for me personally. It may just be because I’ve been here so long, but I can create a listing in just a few minutes without too much brain power involved! (apart from writing the description)
As a seller, it would be interesting to know what the next 5 years looks like in Folksy HQ. Are there plans for any bigger paid for promotions, are there any new, exciting marketing ideas in the pipeline?
Are there any plans for any new features on the website that will benefit the sellers?
It feels like many sellers are seeing Folksy as a business model that is just coasting along on seller’s fees (I’m sure it isn’t) and that’s why it would be good if we as sellers could be privy to a bit more behind the scenes going ons - even the everyday stuff, so we can see how much hard work it is.
Is there an up to date blog post about the employees, who works in which department?
Tell us about your dreams for Foksy @folksycontent
I honest think it’s your familiarity with Folksy which makes it easy to list. Same here . I listed a totally new Sunflower piece last night and it took just a few minutes … Because I copied from something similar and adjusted to suit. After all I’ve been listing on Folksy now for 15 years so could do it in my sleep. .
BUT. I also listed it in my other shop on which I have had far less time and practice. I did that, now, as I have also got practised there, only just the same amount of time. So it is familiarity which counts and makes things easier as in most things and most technologies.
Joy I would rather not have any copyright listings if I do come across any I remove them as I do not like or agree with copyright theft even accidental.
Quite right too. Absolutely agree with you.
Shame Folksy do not think the same way and let’s hope Our potential customers don’t feel the same way because they are often unavoidable . Like minded ustomers must surely be put off by it and shop elsewhere !
I will admit that if I see something I like and then visit the shop and find copyright items, I will not make a purchase no matter how much I want / like a particular item in that shop. I will not compromise my principals because if I did I would lose self respect.
So expand that thought to a brand new customer who has by chance come across Folksy and sees a few Disney or other well known characters and feels the same way.
Do they stop to shop ?
NOPE.
And if they got here by my careful promotional efforts or by yours … We have wasted Our time And Our customer has been stolen from us.
I know they did the June update and did say they are hoping to do one regularly, I found it interesting to read as it showed us what they have been working on and the behind scenes stuff that we don’t think about. It would be good if they expanded on it with things they hope to do.
…
I do think there have been a lot of changes since i started on Folksy, they definately do far more now, we now have all the webinars and there’s a lot more info on the blog to help new sellers than when we joined. Things like the Exhibition this year, weekend selling themes/promotions etc and they seem far more active on Social media.
The other site is huge in comparison but half of it is now filled with tat and it’s going to get worse, there will be more people leaving and I know people who sell well on there will stay as that’s where their sales are coming from but there will be sellers like me who did leave because of their politics and Folksy may gain more sellers.
There are some sellers on here who do very well and others who join, give it a month, put nothing into it and leave, it’s the same everywhere i think.
When i was on the other site I use to share my items to google (can’t do that in the same way now) and facebook (i wasnt on IG or pinterest) so I still had to Self promote the same as I do now. At least on here they don’t tell you they won’t show your items or they will be at the tail end of results because you won’t offer free postage!
I also would like to see no items breaching copyright, perhaps a note when setting up a new shop asking new sellers to check that their items do not infringe copyright rules with a few examples i.e fabrics that are for personal use only I.e disney, Items made using those fabrics i.e Tilda, marvel etc because I think some new sellers don’t have a clue about copyright, they should obviously make it their business to know but many just open a shop and that’s it.
Hi Joy,
I must say I was curious as to what constituted a best selling shop, in terms of how many sales it takes! Everywhere is quiet at the moment, let’s hope things improve as the months roll by…
The figure needed is obviously lower now, in summer but at any time of year I would be Very surprised not to appear at least at the end of the list if I had sales over 7 days of over £100.
. remembering that this includes postage (which seems totally stupid to me as it means that people who sell to the USA will automatically do better if they sell as the postage element will be higher).
I’m actually not quiet at all elsewhere, my July is going extremely well, I think I’ve been to the post office every single day and some days with more than one package. .
All down to external promotion really.
It varies week to week and just depends on how much people are selling. I have got to number 5 with around £300 but have also needed a lot more to get to the same position. Last week I was at number 3, I then sold another bear at £70 ish and thought I might reach number 2 but I didn’t move up, the 2 shops above me had obviously sold a lot more.
Postage I believe is included in the figure but if it wasn’t those shops that offer free postage, where it is actually included in the item price would show a higher value of sale against someone who adds it as an extra, if that makes sense.
