Hi everyone. I know this appears from time to time, but does anyone else agree that we need a Folksy app.
I personally direct everything to my Folksy shop -
My personal website send visitors to Folksy
Pinterest to my Folksy shop
Instagram to my Folksy shop
Facebook has by my shop loaded, and of course directs to my Folksy shop.
Business card Folksy. Etc.etc.etc.
But I struggle to get traffic to my shop and make sales. When I look at the stats hardly any views come from Folksy.
I know we call it the dark side, but Iām going to mention Etsy, as they have both a selling and buying app, and if someone has the buying app on their tablet, phone etc. Then when looking for a gift theyāre just a click away. If someone has to go into google and type in the search, theyāre not going to bother. People have heard of Etsy but not Folksy.
I know to develop an app is expensive, but I would gladly pay a higher monthly charge to have this selling point.
Hi, lovely to hear from one of their testers. I know itās early days and I donāt want to sound negative, but do you know if theyāre intending to have an app for buyers, as I think this will really benefit all the sellers on Folksy. Once people have the āBuyā app on their phone / tablet theyāre more likely to just browse and then impulse buy.
Excited to hear whatās happening, and canāt wait to hear the outcome.
I hate the app versions of sites except Instagram (which is made for phones) I always use the desktop version even on my tablet. I certainly donāt buy from apps either but then I mainly use Chrome for everything and I certainly do Google everything too!
haha, iām the same as you @Zoknitandsew - i still use my desktop for anything āproperā, and do all my buying through safari or chrome. i hate having my ipad cluttered with āstuffā, and have nothing at all on my phone
when did i become a dinosaur??!
(ps i was one of the app testers. even this dinosaur found it okay to use)
@Zoknitandsew Same here, I really donāt understand why people would prefer to download an app for every site they use rather than just use a browser for all (even more when you need 2 apps per site), especially when apps often seem to be missing features I regularly use on the websites. It just seems so much more effort! We do seem to be in the minority these days though, Iām always shocked when I see the numbers for mobile use compared to computer use, and it reminds me Iām the odd one now for hating to use my phone.
I thought I better leave the testing to the people who actually want to use it, or Iād just end up complaining about little things that normal app users donāt have a problem with
Iāll find out how it is whenever I can finally get on holiday again, because thatās about the only time I use my phone for Folksy.
Iāll still hope youāre right though, @PoppysHandcrafted, and that it will help get more people on Folksy (even if I donāt understand why), because anything that helps Folksy get more known is good. If the app theyāre working on now is only for sellers though then I imagine it will be quite a while before thereās a buyer one, as it will take a lot of work and Folksy only have a tiny team to work on these things.
I donāt use apps really if I can use the website (except Instagram which was built around the app) I find the apps for the other side pretty useless as I can do so much more on the website. I generally use my tablet or phone so usually only using the mobile version of the website but I donāt see the need for the app.
Not sure if I should say too much about testing the folksy app but itās just for sellers at the moment and I think it needs a lot of work doing before release.
