Art chat thread July 2020

Brenda, I like abstract and this is good. Here’s my latest, posted yesterday…

ORIGINAL PAINTING FOR SALE this is the abstract and expressive painting of ‘The Healing’ by me David McCormack created from imagination, feeling mood, colour and wet-in-wet randomness during the current oppressive lockdown. Mixed media on black water colour paper…https://folksy.com/items/7521168-The-Healing-ORIGINAL-PAINTING

Guys, quick question, can I ask those who send out paintings- how do you package them?

Personally I use the Colompac reinforced envelopes, lots of ‘please do not bend’ stickers and send via RM Special Delivery. Other than a recent problem with a bent envelope this system works for me. Can it be improved on?

If sending to the UK , I use cut up Amazon boxes because the card is thicker…I don’t trust board backed envelopes…I have seen postmen trying to fold them in half to get them in the letterbox…( they never read the stickers) NEVER trust couriers…alias the herpes company…I always use royal mail.
As you might have noticed I stick to small format art…8x6 or under as these are less susceptible to damage and folding. I buy ( or sometimes make) A5 envelopes and make sure that the card inside is almost edge to edge to the envelope to prevent the corners being buckled. I have never had a painting damaged…yet…
All of my paintings fit in the local postbox as getting to the post office is out of the question for me…so far so good.
Hope that helps

I use “do not bend” envelopes, so far without problems. My original artwork gets sent as “signed for” which should reduce the temptation for the posty to squeeze it through the letterbox.
I stick some extra cardboard inside anyway which would make bending it even more difficult.

Thanks, just to be clear, the Columpac envelopes are solid cardboard, not the ‘card backed envelopes’. They really are quite solid, however UK suppliers now only sell in Qtyx 100 units so I’ve had to find an alternative.
I use my own ‘do not bend’ stickers, to date I’ve only had one bent and I believe this was done by a machine at the sorting office- sadly, no matter how well your artwork is packaged it can still get chewed up machinery.
