Bluesky social media

At a recent event I attended the sellers were talking about the deterioration of Twitter since it became X, lack of interest in posts, and too many adverts.

Some are using Facebook and/or Instagram more instead, but some were complaining about Meta in general and even closing their accounts.

Many were also enthusing about Bluesky (bsky.social and/or bsky.app). Apparently it has no adverts, and you can actually see the posts from people you follow, like Twitter was ten years ago. Also it has massively increased user numbers in the last year.

Does anyone here have experience with Bluesky? Is this where our customers are going? Do we need a Bluesky button on Folksy?

Hi, I have never heard of blue sky and don’t use instagram or facebook. Unfortunately everything is changing online :woman_facepalming:t3:.

I’ve used Twitter/x for years and never seen any adverts. I use an adblocker, so that’s probably why.

I’ve started to use Bluesky as a consumer, following authors and creators I like as opposed to selling on there. A lot of creatives I chat to in online communities are really enjoying Bluesky over Meta or X because there’s no algorithm so the system really relies on users actually chatting to each other and interacting like humans, instead of mass-hashtagging and posting a certain amount of times to ā€˜get reach’ and all that faff that’s putting people off the other sites.

I haven’t looked at the craft communities on there, but the reading and gardening ones that I follow do seem pleasant. A lot less of the sniping and drama I’ve seen on other sites, and a lot more general conversation. It’s small, though, so I guess if it grows the people who bring drama might come along…

I have heard of Bluesky and opened an account but so far never used it due to time constraints, it is far less toxic apparently but I have no idea what it’s like for promoting products. Worth a shot I guess. I use instagram a lot

I am on Blue Sky. I have 11 followers :joy:. Tbh i don’t go on there that much. But much nicer than X. I rarely go on X. Also on Threads. 226 followers on there but zero interaction.

That sounds really interesting @francescaswords it would be nice to have real interactions again. I’ve lost count of how many ā€œmessagesā€ I’ve had through Meta not remotely interesting to me - more like a dating app!

Do you get real interactions through Instagram @MysticalWhimsy? I just get sales pitches and lewd suggestions.

I’m glad to hear someone actually using it @Amberlilly . I had never heard of it before

I do, by connecting to lots of other artists plus many that are also Folksy members  I am very careful who I choose to follow and who follows me.

I’m on bluesky (this is me → @little1leather.bsky.social on Bluesky )

My posts are a mix of #folksy related and other ramblings from my head – I’ve got about 150 some odd followers … but I know (from reading my stats page) that some people have followed links to here from there – because bluesky pops up on my stats page a few times … so I think it’s worth it to have an account (free) and make your posts …

Have fun with it …

Thanks @Little1Leather it’s good to hear that. I had hundreds of followers on Twitter ten years ago, but it’s not been the same recently. I didn’t know anything about Bluesky, but I may well look at investing some time and effort into it.

Yeah it feels very normal and not like I’m wading through ad land, or troll central. It is still pretty small but maybe that’s a good thing!

Yes, I’m on Bkuesky both for my business and for the organisation I work for managing their social media.

I personally stopped posting in my Twitter acts while ago - it’s all just to toxic and have found Bkuesky quite a refreshing change!

@Folksyadmin it would be nice to share my bluesky account on my Folksy page!

I joined up to bluesky a while back - probably when Musk did/said something particularly annoying, even though I was never on X or Twitter! I haven’t done anything on there yet, though it is probably about time I did.
I am now following you @Little1Leather, and if anyone else wants to leave a link here I will try to follow them too.
I am here

I joined a while ago, although I haven’t really used it to promote my shop yet.
I will try and find and follow as many of you as I can.
