At a recent event I attended the sellers were talking about the deterioration of Twitter since it became X, lack of interest in posts, and too many adverts.
Some are using Facebook and/or Instagram more instead, but some were complaining about Meta in general and even closing their accounts.
Many were also enthusing about Bluesky (bsky.social and/or bsky.app). Apparently it has no adverts, and you can actually see the posts from people you follow, like Twitter was ten years ago. Also it has massively increased user numbers in the last year.
Does anyone here have experience with Bluesky? Is this where our customers are going? Do we need a Bluesky button on Folksy?
Iāve started to use Bluesky as a consumer, following authors and creators I like as opposed to selling on there. A lot of creatives I chat to in online communities are really enjoying Bluesky over Meta or X because thereās no algorithm so the system really relies on users actually chatting to each other and interacting like humans, instead of mass-hashtagging and posting a certain amount of times to āget reachā and all that faff thatās putting people off the other sites.
I havenāt looked at the craft communities on there, but the reading and gardening ones that I follow do seem pleasant. A lot less of the sniping and drama Iāve seen on other sites, and a lot more general conversation. Itās small, though, so I guess if it grows the people who bring drama might come alongā¦
I have heard of Bluesky and opened an account but so far never used it due to time constraints, it is far less toxic apparently but I have no idea what itās like for promoting products. Worth a shot I guess. I use instagram a lot
I am on Blue Sky. I have 11 followers . Tbh i donāt go on there that much. But much nicer than X. I rarely go on X. Also on Threads. 226 followers on there but zero interaction.
That sounds really interesting @francescaswords it would be nice to have real interactions again. Iāve lost count of how many āmessagesā Iāve had through Meta not remotely interesting to me - more like a dating app!
My posts are a mix of #folksy related and other ramblings from my head ā Iāve got about 150 some odd followers ⦠but I know (from reading my stats page) that some people have followed links to here from there ā because bluesky pops up on my stats page a few times ⦠so I think itās worth it to have an account (free) and make your posts ā¦
Thanks @Little1Leather itās good to hear that. I had hundreds of followers on Twitter ten years ago, but itās not been the same recently. I didnāt know anything about Bluesky, but I may well look at investing some time and effort into it.
I joined up to bluesky a while back - probably when Musk did/said something particularly annoying, even though I was never on X or Twitter! I havenāt done anything on there yet, though it is probably about time I did.
I am now following you @Little1Leather, and if anyone else wants to leave a link here I will try to follow them too.
