Anyone use Bluesky?

Word is that some people are drifting away from X and using Bluesky instead (I heard that they now have something like 20m users on there now), and I was just wondering if it’s in any way worthwhile to get an account on there? What I’m reading is that it’s generally thought of as a friendlier/less toxic place than X has become (plus, no Mr Musk).

Anyone used it or heard anything about it? Anyone using it?

I have no idea if it’s any good for promoting work etc; it looks very similar to X and I’ve had a quick scroll looking for handmade items (I think they support hashtags) and I’ve seen some artists/designers/creators on there (including some Folksy sellers, although there’s no account for Folksy itself that I can see) - and the views for their posts look quite good.

Could it be a new social media outlet that might be worthwhile?!?!

Can’t say I’ve heard of it. There definitely needs to be more X alternatives. I hardly use it since it moved from twitter. Thanks for the info.

Just thinking… @Folksyadmin - do you have plans to set up a Bluesky account? Is it something you’ve looked into and decided against for some reason? it would be really interesting to know your thoughts as you might be a bit ahead of the curve! (And I guess, if it does become a SM outlet more of us will use, I’m wondering if it should be possible to add it to the links on our bios too…)

I’ve essentially stayed away from X for quite some time now as it’s an increasingly divisive place to be. Thinking about Bluesky but not sure I’ve got the energy for another SM platform…same for Threads. Curiosity might take me there in the end though :see_no_evil:

Ha, I know the feeling, I’m the same! It makes me feel exhausted to have to learn a new platform - as long as it’s easy (ie, the same!) and doesn’t take much to learn how to get around, I’m willing: if not, I’m not!

And Threads - I’ve basically done fingers in ears with that one! :hear_no_evil:

I’ll put my foot in it here, I expect, but BlueSky is considered to be an “antidote” to all things Musk, Trump, rightwing politics etc. However, the platform plans to impose speech censorship to create “safety” for users. Whether that will have any bearing on posters using it for business I have no idea.
I’ll leave it there…

I joined yesterday, but haven’t posted anything yet. It appears to be like twitter was pre-Musk, but there are fewer accounts currently.
Any additional methods of getting my shop and Folky’s name out there can’t be a bad thing.

It’ll be interesting to see how it goes for you Alison - with fewer people I wonder if it will mean you get more reach, followers and interaction for your posts…

I’ve been on there quite a while. It’s like the early days of twitter. I’m still on X though.

Do you find you get more interaction/views, etc? I remember back in the day on Twitter when you’d have conversations and interaction with people (now it feels a bit ‘post and run’)… and people used to follow one another much more.

I can’t say that I do to be honest.

It’s something I’ve been thinking about, but haven’t set up an account yet.

I think we have enough speech censorship and that’s apparently what Bluesky will do. i strongly admire Mr Musk for his stance on freedom of speech, shouldn’t we all.

well said, freedom of speech needs to be encouraged. surely.

I packed in X when Mr Musk first acquired it and have not regretted that decision. Haven’t got round to trying Bluesky yet, am not good with learning new platforms, haven’t got a Threads account yet either.
And whatever happened to Mastodon (which I also never got round to)?

I’ve just joined. I don’t like X but still have an account.
