Can you recommend a clear varnish

or lacquer to put on top of acrylic paints on pottery?

I want it to emulate the clear, glossy finish of my usual pottery glaze but I want to put it over metallic paint and for the metallic to still retain it’s shimmer?

I’ve used clear nail varnish in the past but don’t really want it to leave an odour.

Any ideas would be appreciated - thanks

Hey,

I use a gloss varnish by Creative deco. I’ve never tried it on pottery, but I use it on acrylic paints on wooden pebbles and it works really well. I got it on Amazon for £17-18, it was more expensive than others I’d seen but the bottle is 500ml and it will last for ages. I like it as well because I can put it on with a brush instead of spraying it (I didn’t want all the fumes!), it smells a little but don’t think it smells once it’s on and dry.

Hope that helps!

I use Decopatch for my decoupage ‘work’. They might make a specific ceramics glue/varnish. Can’t recommend it highly enough.
