CE mark on toys

Im making fabric dolls and have seen that they need to be marked with the CE mark.
Originally i wasnt intending them to be toys.
Has any one else gone down this road?

There are a number of sellers on here who can give you really good advice on how to test your items, I’m sure one will pop by in a monent!!

Great thanks.

When I went through this a few years back a number of people were using this company’s advice (https://www.conformance.co.uk) and also a Facebook Group https://www.facebook.com/cemarkinghandmadetoyscollective/ which had a few members that were very helpful.

If they are soft dolls that look like toys, whether intended to be toys or not they will appeal to kids so need to be CE marked. If you want to avoid CE marking you will need to look into making dolls that are collectors items - and what sort of criteria you need to fulfil. Thanks for your reply. I have come across conformance today and joined the group of toymakers so I will go through the process. I also found some good advice by toy makers on Pinterest.
Its good to see other makers have gone down that route! Thanks again Jane

You can download all of the necessary regulations online and there’s a pack for testing your items. You need to keep a folder for all of your testing information and any product information etc.

Thank you Ive found a pack for 28£ which I think im going to use.
I appreciate you taking time to reply. Jane

Thats the one I use Jane @JIP and its really easy  one tip is to buy all your compliant fabrics yarns threads etc and get the certificates together before making to test as you will probably find that a lot of the supplies you currently use do not have certificates. I had to buy tons of new yarns when I started and I don’t like yarn shopping at all  You will need to make 2 test subjects for each design one to complete the tests correctly  the group on FB is fantastic and my go to place for info and advice  good luck and its wonderful to see another CE aware seller as there are so many that do not bother or ignore the regs but its a safety issue to me plus I could never afford the fines if trading standards came knocking  xx
