Christmas Caroling

Do you like Christmas carols? Which one is your favourite? Write the title and the words that you remember here off the top of your head. Do not cheat and look up the words! I’ll start…

The Little Drummer Boy

Come they told me / parapapampam
A new born king to see / parapapampam
I have no gift to bring / parapapampam / rapapampam / rapapampam

Not much I’m afraid…I just can’t remember too many words in songs……

Let’s see how well you do…!

Little Donkey

Little donkey, little donkey on the dusty road

Little donkey, little donkey with your precious load

Ring out those bells tonight Bethlehem, Bethlehem

Follow that star tonight Bethlehem, Bethlehem

Oh I do so love the Little Drummer Boy :drum: done by Bing Crosby and David Bowie!

But also…

:notes: Silent Night Holy Night
All is calm All is bright
Round yon virgin mother and child
Holy infant so tender and mild… :notes:

Sorry but I now have the giggles, as I just started singing randomly out loud the words I remembered to join in here, and my husband, engrossed in a film, jumped and gave me the most startled/puzzled/quizzical look, as I am not usually prone to randomly bursting into song! :joy:

I love Fairytale of New York, but I can only remember the chorus words

“And the boys of the NYPD choir
Still singing Galway Bay
And the bells are ringing out
For Christmas Day”

Hark the herald angels sing
Glory to the new born king
Peace on earth and mercy mild
God and sinners reconciled.

The rest is a blank and that is coming from a choir girl!

My all time favourite sung by Johnny Mathis, love his voice

A ray of hope flickers in the sky
A tiny star lights up way up high
All across the land, dawns a brand new morn
This comes to pass when a child is born

Morning All,

My favourite is ‘O Little Town of Bethlehem’

O little town of Bethlehem,
how still we see they lie,
Above thy deep and dreamless sleep
The silent stars go by,

Yet in the dark streets, shineth
the ever lasting light
The hopes and fears of all the years
are met in thee tonight.

How silently, how silently
the wondrous gift is given,
As god imparts to human hearts,
the wonders of his heaven.

And now my minds gone blank! Although I think I got further than I thought I would

Cheers Lou

I’m always drawn to In The Bleak Midwinter …lovely memories of school Christmas choirs

In the bleak midwinter Frosty wind made moan,
Earth stood hard as iron,
Water like a stone,
Snow had fallen,
snow on snow,… Snow on snow

I love the Zither carol but I hardly ever hear it anywhere, such a shame, it’s such a lively one. Anybody else know it?
Girls and boys, leave your toys. make no noise,
Kneel at His crib and worship Him.
At Thy shrine, Child divine, we are Thine,
Our Saviour’s here

Hallelujah!” the church bells ring etc

My absolute favourite doesn’t get sung much. Here it goes …
Three kings from Persian lands afar
to Jordan follow the pointing star.
And this the Quest of the traveller’s three
where the new born King of the Jews may be.
Full royal gifts they bear for the king
gold, incense, myrrh are their offering.

Gaudete, gaudete Christos est natus
Ex Maria virginae, gaudete.

That’s my all time favourite Christmas song too Caroline. I don’t even start to feel Christmassy until I’ve heard it. It doesn’t get played as much as it used to so I usually have to find it on youtube to get my fix!
