Daily Listing Challenge and Group Promotion Thread December 2024 🎄

Good morning all. Just a quick visit as we’re just off to pick our grandson up in a bit, back later.

I listed a couple of New Years cards yesterday, I’m not happy with the photos but the light was so dreadful.

Morning all, might drop out the next few days, have not started getting the house and everything else ready for Christmas and really cannot see how I will pull it off this year!
But will definitely pop back before the big day.

Good morning all  Brr its freezing in my house this morning as my boiler has decided to throw a wobbly and I daren’t put it on, luckily I have boiler cover with British Gas and I booked last night for an engineer today and they are coming between 10 and 2, I moan about the cost but can’t knock the service  I think I might have to wear some of my hats and gloves to keep warm until they get it fixed
I am all caught up with loving or pinning to here and I have a relist today of some fingerless gloves
Congrats to all with sales and hugs to everyone who needs one  xxx

Tax return for me today as well @GeorginaCrawfordArt . (Got disrupted the other day and haven’t got near it since!). I got a reply from an accountant who I contacted last week to see whether they can check my completed return over before submitting it, just to reassure me that I put one number in the right section. They only do them from scratch though, and charge £265 + VAT. So I’ll be double-checking it myself this morning and just submitting it. I’m confident it’s right anyway, but you know that little niggling doubt…

Carol, you shouldn’t pay sales commission twice on gift vouchers. But you will pay fees on any excess if the voucher doesn’t cover the total value of the chosen item.

Unfortunately, Folksy doesn’t do a £value discount code, just a %, and you can’t take 100% off. So we need to be creative.

The customer contacts you to choose their item/s.

If the cost, including postage, is the same or less than the voucher, you just post it off to them. It doesn’t go through Folksy or Paypal/Stripe, so no fees are due. You agree with the customer what to do with any surplus (either add an additional gift or hold it for future purchases). I always send an email to say it has been sent, as they won’t get the Folksy “shipped” email.

If the voucher doesn’t cover the whole cost, it’s probably easier to do them a custom listing to cover the extra costs. Another alternative, is to work out a discount % to reduce the item originally listed, but this is rather fiddly and you will need to remember to delete the discount code afterwards.
There will be some fees due:

  • If you are not a Plus member, you will pay the listing fee for a custom order, or if you are re-listing the chosen item
  • Paypal/Stripe charge both a fixed amount as well as a %. So you will pay this fixed amount twice - once on the voucher order and again on the chosen item. But it is quite a small amount (30p/20p)
  • But Folksy only charge a %, so you only pay straight fees on the extra amount.
  • If you usually charge postage rather than put it into the item price, make sure your custom listing for the excess does this too (assuming the amount is big enough), as Folksy commission is not charged on postage. It also makes it clearer to the person redeeming the voucher.

Hope this makes sense - shout if not and I’ll do a worked example when I get back from Cardiff.

EDIT It is rather complicated. I have started doing specific vouchers for some of my specific “giftable” items. So the original buyer purchases a voucher for a playmat, or an embroidered picture, and the voucher covers the exact cost including postage.
