thanks Sasha
Just had a notification from Etsy - as of the 5th May the rules are getting tighter so Etsy are making sure everyone knows they need to register before they send out to affected countries … I’m hoping that it will be enough to say ‘I don’t send to certain countries any affected orders will be cancelled and refunded’ rather than turning off international shipping to the EU completely - I guess we will just have to wait and see what happens!
Do you know if you have to do that for each individual product listing, or is it something you can do for all listings in bulk (assuming all your listings would have the same delivery cost of course…!)? With something like 200 counties (or whatever it is!) doing it as a one-off is a pain but doable, whereas doing it for each individual listing is something else!!
On etsy you have to do it for each shipping profile but when I tried it seems the website can’t cope (I tried different devices and Internet) and it takes forever so I gave up. Also you would have to do it all again when the postage goes up.
Reading this on etsy, you have to register upfront if you offer delivery to Germany. That’s how I read it anyway. ‘Prior to any sales’
Yes I see what you mean - if that is the case then it looks like I won’t be selling to Europe at all! I shall hang on for a couple more days before I end all European listings hoping for clarification from Etsy (and Folksy) and on the basis that an offence is committed only if I physically ship to Germany etc. which I have no intention of doing. I don’t think I have ever sold or shipped to the affected countries anyway but I’d like to continue to offer unaffected countries the opportunity of buying British. I really hope Etsy and Folksy can come up with a better way to selectively remove the affected countries from my selling list.
I really hope something can be done. With Ireland especially I would still like to ship there.
I’d just like to know if Folksy are working on this - just a “we’re on it” message would be helpful. I’d like to be able to use my Folksy shop as a place to direct all my overseas customers ultimately, so that I can utilise their system and get overseas customers buying on here rather than my own website (and pay Folksy some more commission ).
Would just really like some word from them so that we at least know they’re on it and a rough idea of what they’re planning… this has been in the pipeline for a long time so it’s not like it’s a surprise!
Yes @folksycontent @Folksyadmin if possible, do you have any update regarding LUCID?
The sellers from the US are able to edit their shipping countries without listing each individual country. We are hoping Etsy will do this for UK sellers too
That’s what’s needed here on folksy too.
We don’t need Folksy Admin for us to know that shipping to Germany requires LUCID registration.
Using the online packaging calculator if I sent one item to Germany and ONLY used one Polythene mailing sack I would need to pay a licence fee of 39 Euros for the year/period the licence covers. This appears to be the minimum fee per year.
Folksy needs to adjust European Shipping to reflect countries that have packaging regulations affecting shipping of items.
Reclay will do you a german packaging license covering 2kg of cardboard and 2kg of plastic for about 10 euros (so not prohibitively high if you know you’ll get several german orders per year). Here’s a link to the calculator to work out how much a license would cost through them Orders
That’s a good link Sasha, but you still have to register with Lucid? And do you know if that costs? And even if its straightforward to do? Sorry, not really getting to grips with this whole thing at the moment. I’ve turned of European posting but I have sent parcels there in the past.
We’re working on a solution that will support sellers who want to continue selling to Germany, while allowing everyone else to opt out of selling there. It should be up and running by 1st July and we’ll update you on how it will work soon (hopefully this week or early next week).
Essentially if you want to keep shipping to Germany, there will be fields on Folksy that you need to complete, and if not then you simply leave them blank and we’ll automatically remove Germany as a shipping destination under Europe and block any sales at checkout for you.
Hi Sue - its a 2 part process. First you register with LUCID (that bit is free) then you go and buy your license (from Reclay or one of the other providers). Once you have your license number you go back to LUCID and enter it there. LUCID would be a one off registration but you need to buy a license every year and then enter the number into LUCID.
Thank you so much Camilla - this sounds like a really constructive solution. My understanding is that other countries in Europe might also tighten up on packaging regulations so I hope it can be applied to these other countries as and when necessary.
Fantastic, thanks very much Camilla
Yes exactly. That’s the plan.
So I removed europe from my listings and kept usa and rest of world thinking that would exclude europe but I have just had an order from spain. Am I correct in saying I dont need a licence to post to spain? And do I need to remove the rest of the world from my shipping? But I want to ship to australia and new zealand! such a hassle
