I thought removing Europe shipping would stop any orders coming through.
me too! I have just messaged buyer and refunded
I think buyers probably see ‘Rest of the World’ and assume that means anywhere outside the UK and USA if that’s all that’s listed - which is logical from their point of view, but not great! So the ‘rest of the world’ destination is going to have to be made to say something like ‘rest of the world (excluding Europe)’ or something by Folksy I suppose.
I thought it would actually prevent people from Europe making a purchase, not just rely on the buyer to read and choose not to make the purchase.
so is there away then of adding individual countries that you still may want to ship too?
That’s the ridiculous thing about having “rest of the world” - you can either offer your items to Australia and Afghanistan, Singapore and Syria, and figure out how to deliver to banned countries yourself, or you can’t offer to any of them. There is no way to pick and choose.
Just found this. So it looks like in order to not send to Europe, I’ve also got to not send to rest of the world either?
@dianesdecoupage Rest of the world includes the rest of the countries that haven’t already been specified. So if you had a flat rate for shipping anywhere internationally, you could just fill in the “rest of the world” box and it would cover everywhere other than than the UK, without having to add the same price for Europe, US and everywhere else.
However as Camilla said, this will be getting sorted so that sellers can easily exclude Germany before 1st July.
i will just need to leave rest of the world and continue cancelling and refunding orders to europe as I still want non europe countries. . Its just not germany that has the packaging laws and have a feeling many other countries will follow suit
I think to be honest it’s going to be (at least) dozens of countries that opt into this and will require permits (paid or not - and even unpaid is a pain!), Germany is just the first with more to go - so hopefully Folksy are going to make it so that we can de-select countries individually in the long term. The postage zones need a huge overhaul urgently (that blog article Carol found is from 10 years ago, and Folksy’s way of grouping countries has been out of date in terms of the RM way of zoning for some time) - and I’m very much hoping it gets sorted in plenty of time before the deadline, especially for those sellers that have a large number of items in their shops and bearing in mind we don’t know at this stage how complicated it’s going to be to set up.
Yes, there’s a lot of work to be done to shipping, but it’s not possible to get all of that sorted before this deadline, so this is just an in-between measure before the full improvements can be made.
Now I know that Europe falls into rest of the world if you leave Europe empty, I’ve removed that too so now only got UK and USA.
Germany now require you to be registered for their recycling program, basically its free to register, however you do have to pay a fee, ( maybe annualy ) for the amount of packaging you have sent into the country, basically what ever you use to parcel up your goods in, ie, buble wrap, tisue paper, poly mailers, cardboard box’s. You have to weigh the amount used and enter it onto 2 different websites, one is the German govenment recycling website, ( free registration ) the other website is a third party that acts as your agent and they collect your fees payable. I have registered over on my Etsy shop, but decided not to send any more order to Germany due to the messing about, its all a bit complicated for me and added costs, that I can do without.
This is the notice I got from Etsy
Government Registrations
German LUCID identification number
To comply with the German Packaging Act, VerpackG, all shops who sell to buyers in Germany are required to register with the LUCID Packaging Register and provide their unique identification number.
Tomorrow will be 1 July and I was hoping to have had an easy way to exclude Europe from buying my items as I don’t intend to register to sell in any of the countries with restrictions on postage. I’m tediously going through my 581 items and removing the postage cost for Europe but as I still have figures in the “Rest of the World” box, wonder if I will still receive orders from Europe?
Can anyone help on whether I’m doing the right thing please? Maybe @folksycontent @Folksyadmin ?
I would still like to be able to sell to countries such as Ireland, Malta, Norway who don’t currently have these restrictions but as these will be bundled into ‘Europe’ guess this isn’t an option.
Also, are ‘shipping profiles’ on the way? Going through each item individually is taking sooooo long!!
The bulk edit function allows you to update your shipping costs in one go (although I’d recommend doing it in batches as it can hang if you try and do too many at once). You can find bulk edit near the top on the left hand side of your dash board.
I think that by having something in ‘rest of world’ you could still get orders from europe but Folksy were going to put something in place that would block orders to Germany if you hadn’t entered a lucid number. But don’t quote me on that I might be getting mixed up.
Thank you Sasha @SashaGarrett I’m now about half way through my items and am using the bulk edit which is much quicker than opening each item individually but I’m having to fill in all the price fields which slows it down.
I would like to know if ‘Rest of the World’ includes Europe even though I’m not specifying a price in the ‘Europe’ field. Hopefully not!!
I see earlier in this thread some changes were due to be made in May so hopefully they’re nearing completion.
Hi everyone. The German LUCID work has been deployed.
There is now a “Government registrations” section at the bottom of the shop sections page with an optional “German LUCID identification number” field to fill in.
If you fill that in, then ‘Germany’ will appear in the lists of shipping destinations for an item (assuming you ship to the EU) and sales to Germany will proceed as normal.
If you don’t fill that in, then ‘Germany’ will not be in the lists of shipping destinations for that item and, more importantly, buyers attempting to ship to Germany will be informed at checkout that those items can’t be delivered to their country.
Thanks Camilla that’s brilliant - I understand that some other countries like France are also going to start applying restrictions so I hope Folksy can stay on top of the situation and that the same will apply to these other countries as necessary. Once again thanks for sorting this.
I’ve just tried adding one of my items to the basket and selecting Germany as the destination (it still showed in the list even though I have no lucid number), and when I reached the payment screen there was an error message stating that there are issues - so it looks like it works nicely!
Does anyone understand the French EPR?
I’ve got my head around the German packaging thing (not that I’ve actually done it yet) but don’t understand the French thing.
E*sy have a spot to put your registration number but I’ve seen no mention of it on folksy.
