FB help please?

Finally I made my first attempt at a fb business page today… As I’m not at all computer savvy and have only just ventured into social media purely because I joined Folksy any advice would be welcome? Firstly does my fb link work? Any tips on what to do with this business page would be gratefully recieved as I feel like I’m drowning if I’m honest. It’s taken me 6 weeks to find the gumption to venture onto canva, then onto facebook but this morning I bit the bullet and pulled my finger out.. (lost a lot of hair in the process too :joy: and nearly launched the laptop through the window) anyway hopefully I’ve sorted things but as I say I need help on what to actually do with this page :joy: thank you..

The link works, so you’re off to a good start.
I’ve been using Facebook and Instagram for seven years and still don’t really know what I’m doing, but I wish you the best of luck.

Hi Jill, your link works fine.

Facebook wants to see genuine interaction. You can post your items, your work in progress, your favourite tool, your reviews and so on. My personal opinion is to keep it professional and related to your business, yes people buy from people, but I don’t need to know your grocery shopping list for example

Try and include questions in your posts as this can trigger comments different than “so beautiful, love this” etc. Also replying to the comments people leave on your posts is essential to me and can also bring the other person back to your page (which means “Interaction”, which helps the dreaded algorithm).

Try to avoid adding links on your main post as fb sees that as going away from it and doesn’t like it. I believe they have started rolling out a “link limit” to some business pages anyway. Add your links as a first comment to your post if you can.

Very importantly, don’t do “a lot and fast” as you will be seen as a robot. Things like following too many pages too fast, liking too many posts too fast, commenting too much or too fast, can all put you in the “facebook jail” and get you banned for a period of time. Also, when visiting other pages, don’t like too many posts and don’t comment on too many of them at once, as this gets the page shadow banned (in other words it puts them at the very bottom of the algorithm favouritism ).

You can join groups and post your items there, with the link of your listing, but make sure you read each group’s rules.

Folksy themes of the day, Folksy Friday, national and international days, big events or seasonal themes can sometimes give you posting ideas if you have items to match, or you can relate them to your business in any way.

In general you want a mix of pictures and reels with a mix of selling posts, behind the scenes, work in progress etc. Supporting other pages is also a must, and most of them will do the same for yours.

Saying all that, it is not easy, can take a lot of time, and I also belong to those who are rubbish with it, struggle with it, could do without it, and at times cannot be bothered at all

That’s all I can think of at the moment as a starting point, I am sure more advice will be given and if you get stuck with something we are all here to help. it will be like you are talking to yourself at first, but try to ignore it

Good luck with it x

I actually made a personal FB account a couple of weeks ago, just so I could access some groups about a medicine my cat reacted badly to, and had thought I might make a business page while I was there. However!!! Very quickly my activity was restricted (so I can’t join groups etc. now) because my activity was ‘unusual’. So unless I access it using my mobile device (don’t have one), I’m restricted and there’s nothing I can do about it. I wish Meta didn’t have the monopoly on social media.

take heart, I don’t even know what canva is…lol…xx
I have two pages and no idea how I even got them…one is personal and I THINK the other one is a business page, but I don’t have a clue…I just post on both of them with my folksy link …never had a problem…so far…
I got put in fb jail once for 3 days for a naughty word…what was it?..I was sending a message to a friend whose husband’s name began with D and was the shortened form of Richard…and NO his name wasn’t even Richard..just DI.K…so fb can be funny at times…so now I just refer to him as “D”…lol

I got restricted as soon as I opened my Instagram account, for impersonating… the clue is in the name I guess :sloth:  I appealed and it was sorted very quickly. On FB though, I got banned on my personal account for violating their advertising policies from my page, and guess what… I had never advertised… I appealed and… two years later, when I had forgotten all about it, I got a notification that they reviewed my appeal and the ban was now removed… Should I dare advertise? Don’t think so

I was adamant I would never join anything like Facebook and here I am years later, quite happy to use my business page - can’t say the same for instagram though, really have to force myself on that. I’ve found that the people who follow me on facebook are people who actually know me in the first place, know my stuff, have bought something from me either at a craft fair or online then followed me, and it’s turned out to be quite personal. There’s not that many followers but they’re quite a responsive bunch, rather than instagram where there’s hardly any pick up and what there is comes from other makers, not potential or existing customers. I try to post each day but just once, often what I’ve made that day, or works in progress, what event I’m going to be at next etc, but I’ll often intersperse with what I’m growing in the garden, baking successes and disasters and the dog (she’s cute) - all of which often get more response than the jewellery  As long as you don’t over do the amount you post and you join some groups you’re interested and interact with other posts, then you’ll get to feel more comfortable with it and it’ll become easier.
