Feedback on "Improve Your Shop"

I would really like to start shipping to the US, but really unsure what the current regulations etc are. Some clarification on this would be great.

Hurrah! Here’s hoping for lots of sales from overseas for all of us!

Hi Sharon,

You might want to check my reply in the thread above. There’s very little to do when sending to the US as they have a de minimis threshold of $800 per package for customs, which won’t impact most of us here.

You only need to attach an Air Mail sticker and a completed CN22 form to your package and that’s it :slightly_smiling_face:

This is helpful, thanks.
Do you fill in the CN22 form at the Post Office? Or is it something you need to do in advance?

You can pick up a supply of forms from your Post Office Liz, or you can do it online, whether or not you use Click and Drop: CN22 Customs form guide | Mail | Post Office.

You can complete one online here and fill it in, or you can print off a blank one and fill it in by hand. If you use Click and Drop, the system populates one for you (which I always check and edit if necessary) that you print off with the postage label :slightly_smiling_face:

Great advice Debbie, thanks

There’s a blog post on shipping overseas that might be useful, too: Folksy guide to selling to the EU and overseas after Brexit | Folksy Blog

And as well as the Post Office there are courier services like Parcel2Go Folksy UK Shipping & Parcel Delivery | Courier Services | Parcel2Go

Yes that would be good Debbie

I didn’t realise Folksy had a parcel sending service, I seem to remember reading something about parcel drop off but possibly didn’t look any further as we don’t have a drop off point in the village.
I use Royal mail tracked and postie collects from me, does it help Folksy if we use this service ? Does it cost Folksy to have it? If it doesn’t I will continue as I am but if it helps then I will have a look at it.

Me either! Not sure how we’ve missed this. Looks like you have to closely look at the options - I had a quick look for a large letter 500g going to the US and the cheapest shown have “no protection”, which is obviously a lot less than with RM’s service.

Will definitely check it next time I have a small parcel to send though.

Hh Debby - it’s not a Folksy service as such, it’s just a service we spoke to a while ago who put together a ‘package’ for Folksy sellers. If Royal Mail works for you then stick with it!

Ha ha, I have 350 items that could do with improvement…lol…
It really doesn’t help to have more than one picture of a hand painted small card.
On my larger paintings, I DO take a few more photos to show a close up but as for the other 350, it made me laugh…sorry admin but that just seemed a bit silly to me…

Thank you, ok I will stick with Royal Mail for now.
@thecrimsonrabbit I only had a Quick Look but if they don’t offer the same amount of insurance I would probably do as Folksy said and stick with the one you currently use. I use Royal mail tracked post and postie collects from me.

Agreed, it’s probably a bit OTT! :upside_down_face:
Although, whilst the feature won’t be able to tell you this as it’s not ‘clever’, it might help to have some stock shots of you painting and creating your cards to include on all your card item listings - people do read but they are also far more likely to feel the value of the work you do (and pay for it) if they can see it being done in the photos they see.
Separately, did you see the reel we did on Insta recently about how to photograph greetings cards? I think there are tips in there that could make your work stand out:

Thank you, I’ve just checked and the only issue is I don’t post internationally. Quite happy with that.

Wonderful to know that there are only two things preventing my shop from being fantastically successful best seller.
I have one out of 700+ listings which has accidentally only got one photo… oh and I don’t sell internationally.

Right I will get another photo onto that pendant set and wait for the orders to come flooding in

Thank you for rolling this out to all. I have just checked and I have 100% shop health  I am a little disappointed truth be told, I thought I would get an insight into why I have no sales since rejoining Folksy.

Hi Alison - you’ve got the basics covered and that’s great. The next step would be to do a deeper dive into the market you’re ‘in’ and the customer niche your work appeals to. Are there people you could ask for unbiased, objective feedback? We’re looking at doing regular shop reviews where the community can submit their shop for a review which we’ll then review, and where people can ask questions. Would you be interested if we did that?

I think so, shop reviews are great to spot things that we may miss, easy to do when you are so immersed in your subject.
