Folksy Friday - is it dying..?

Absolutely! And sadly, as well as fewer people doing FF boards, I’m seeing less interaction on them from fellow sellers. I think this is probably down to the fact they’re harder to find on IG now that hashtags don’t work (although they can still be used on FB).

Perhaps we need to encourage people to interact by creating a new post here on the forum - we’ve got the ‘Promoting Folksy’ one, but maybe we need a fresh new one where people just add their social media links after they’ve posted or something? So that it’s easy for other people to click on and find straight away… not sure?

I think part of the issue is that you often have to visit the sellers shop, and then scroll down to their social links which feels a bit clunky and time consuming. Maybe we need to find an easier ‘one click’ way of people reaching each FF post.

Alternatively, if everyone that does a FF board were to tag the Folksysellers account on IG then they could be found there - to be honest, that’s what I usually do.

It occurred to me that the Folksy Friday boards are made most prominent on the folksy sellers page on instagram so the main people viewing the boards are sellers. (I think they may be on a stories section on the Folksy HQ page but they’re a bit hidden) That means that I think we might be missing out a bit on potential customers actually seeing them.

As far as I know, the algorithm (for both IG and FB) boosts (or hides) posts depending on how many interactions or not that they get.

So, when you create a post it gets shown to just a few of your followers, not all of them. The more followers that interact (and also the quicker), then that post will be shown to more followers, and so on. It’s like a popularity contest. The more people we have interacting with posts then the more that post will be seen.

FF posts you make will be then boosted by fellow Folksy sellers interacting with it, which in turn means that more of your followers will see your post. I guess it doesn’t matter if the interaction is a bit ‘manufactured’ by fellow sellers - because by interacting they can provide the lift - and therefore the reach - of FF posts to your followers. Thereby increasing eyes on Folksy items, with luck!
