Folksy search

I’m finding similar results too, lots and lots of clumping :disappointed:. I am giving specific feedback on each search that I do, as requested by Kim and the admin team.

If anyone hasn’t seen it, the feedback button is at the top right hand side of the page when you are in Search.

Thanks Sharon I hadn’t realised. I hadn’t noticed the filter button either.
I actually like the new look, (apart from the gift guide lodged in the middle)
but it’s just not working

I have had a look at the search this morning and I am unhappy with the way the items now present.
We all go to a lot of effort with our photos and pictures and the red price label looks awful over the top, in some cases obscuring parts of the actual item. Also I find the item images in different sizes very distracting, making some photos look distorted.

Yes Christine, the filter button isn’t that obvious - it’s just an icon/symbol. Text would be better like the other features on the page.

I’ve just spotted the filter button but to be honest you can’t do a lot with it!

It’s the same filter function we’ve always had - I find it useful for drilling down into categories to separate out different product types if I was searching for a general term, but that’s about all.

I’d never spotted it before! Perhaps this is something else Folksy could look at.

I like the look and how fast it brings back results, but those gift guides plonked in the centre of each page HAVE to go.
Its disruptive, makes you think “thats it, thats all they have” and is absolutely nothing to do with the search i was undertaking. Blinking irritating. I know what im searching for, i dont need a push in an entirely different direction. It feels like “dont look at THAT, look at THIS instead, we know better than you”. Ugh.

Anyone else got a massive search icon at the top of their dashboard - very annoying!!

Speed - fab
Layout - as said above, jumbled and messy. Very Pinterest. My OCD also finds the curved corners annoying. The bottom edge is almost invisible against a white background, so the photos have an odd appearance of curved corners at the top and square at the base.
Red price stickers - I could live with the layout, but I think the red price stickers are not only a visual distraction , they also cheapen the whole effect. We’re aiming for quality handmade aren’t we? Not bargain stickers.

No I haven’t Roz @OrchardFelts

Not today - but I have had from time to time. I think a few others have too. I’ve no idea why it appears, but I have to say, I was too lazy to look in to it or report it!!!

I am also not happy with the new search..I did a search for ‘tote bag’. I only have 4 tote bags for sale at the moment, all with ‘tote bag’ as the first words in the title, the first tag and in the first line of the description, yet only 2 appear in the whole 7 pages, yet numerous other bags are there which don’t have tote bag as the first words, or in the first line of the description, with many from the same sellers. In fact some of the bags are titled as ‘shoulder bag’ so not even described as a tote! I also don’t like the ‘ad’ for the gift guide in the middle of the page, or the different sized pictures…it’s a definate step back in my opinion and I have sent feedback saying this.

Layout - horrendous. Do your research! Chaotic layouts make the eyes dart around the screen causing eye strain and cybersickness (visual vertigo), as well as alienating neuro-divergent people. You will NEVER see this chaos on an ecommerce website. (I hate Pinterest because of this layout).

Red stickers - horrendous - they scream STOP. If you’re going to have cheap looking price stickers slapped across photos then do your research on colour theory! Or better still - get rid of them.

Gift guides - NO!

No shop name on listings - unacceptable.

Search results returning unrelated items - unacceptable.

Only seven pages of results - beyond unacceptable!

This is a hot mess. No research has been done on the impact of colours and layouts, shop names have been removed so customers now can’t see that this is a marketplace of individual sellers (or is that deliberate to make it look like Folksy is the seller?), results are restricted to a pathetic seven pages and contain items that are not relevant to the search, and gift guides are unforgivable.

Folksy, you want to be the UK’s alternative to Etsy, but you continually sabotage yourselves and us sellers at every opportunity.

(At the risk of derailing the thread…)

OK, I get you don’t like it … but perhaps you could be a teeny bit less combative in the way you express your comments. The Folksy team are trying their best to do the best thing for the site, and are only human, and don’t deserve to be harangued in this public forum.Perhaps using the Feedback link they have provided to send this privately would have been better.

I didn’t know about ‘cybersickness’ - I tried to run a search on Thursday to make my Folksy Friday board, but gave up because I was feeling dizzy and slightly nauseous.

There’s a lot at the moment that I’m not keen on about how the search works, but I do actually like the way the search is laid out - it gets over the issue of everyone’s photos being different shapes and prevents cropping of images which I feel looks even worse. I don’t mind at all having the prices in red boxes and I’m liking the speed that the search loads up. Hopefully with lots of constructive feedback, the quality of what the search brings up will improve.

I love the speediness.
Sadly I don’t like the layout, it makes me feel dizzy when I scroll down.
I don’t like the red pricing, I think it looks cheap, like Temu, and I do want to see the shop names. The events show shop name and price below the picture don’t they? They looked good, could it be like that?
I really don’t like the gift guide banner half way through, again I think it looks cheap, like an annoying pop-up ad, and like others I thought that was the end of the search.
My biggest issue was with a search for ‘pearl earrings’ which didn’t show a single one of my items in the 7 pages. The first half of page 1 showed 24 items from 8 shops - one showing10 items. I spent a lot of time tweaking after the last big change to search, and had got quite good results, but I no longer know what words I need to include, and don’t relish re-writing 500+ listings yet again, so find that rather disappointing and disheartening.
By the time I got through 7 pages, I was feeling dizzy and had a bad headache.
I haven’t been able to bear trying another search.

That’s a very good point Alison about this format allowing the thumbnail photos to be displayed exactly as each shop intended, it’s why the search results page looks so much more pleasing than it did before, with no images poorly cropped, uncentered or squished. Everyone’s items look more appealing, which has to be good for all of us! I also think the unevenness looks more modern than the old grid, and more like a curated gallery. I like having the price tags in orangey-red - it’s the Folksy primary brand colour so is appropriate and ties in with the rest of the site.

The only feedback I have beyond the clumping etc that everyone has mentioned is that it would be good to have a few more characters of each title showing before the elipses (…) as there is still plenty of clear space and it’s not always obvious what the item is from the limited characters shown.

Ah ha. That ‘same seller’ is me and yes 21 of the first 24 shown are mine. Oldest listings and would not be my choice to be shown first.
I just checked and found most are from my next to last listing page .. why not from the top ?
More surprising is that my shop is on Holiday so none of the things shown are available for sale .
Also one two of the other three things shown were not stained glass at all. One said it was ceramic !
Very odd

Ps I’ve just relisted everything so it all has same date listed. Think it pretty well did before as I do every now and then to stop things vanishing pto expired.

Far less of my things showing now, a better mix, but at the very top is a Card !

Oddly indeed . Another search and I have vanished off the face of the earth including specific word search…
