Probably nothing wrong, just the way it is?
Hi @Rozcraftz. I think lots of people struggle with product photography and unfortunately when you sell online having good product shots is vital. I know you had some specific advice about your photos a couple of months ago through Support.
Further to that I would suggest:
-
Setting up somewhere in your house where you can take all your shots that helps give your shop a consistent look and also makes taking your shots quicker and easier. Choose somewhere where the light isnāt too bright as some of your shots are a flat and bit washed out, while others have shadows and light rays across the products. You can play around with your images in a photo editor afterwards to make them āpopā a bit more.
-
Choose your props carefully, so if you want to include keys to show scale, maybe remove the car key or use some beautiful vintage keys that complement your lovely work. (In that particular image, I would actually leave out the keys altogether as you want to show people itās a glasses case).
-
Try to frame your shots so they fit well into the square framed once cropped.
-
In shots like this where your scarf is on a mannequin, I think it would be better to have the mannequin square on to the camera in the main image (which would also help straighten the vertical lines in the background). Photograph it directly on a table or other surface (the set-up underneath is a bit distracting) and be aware of background details like the smudges on the wall.
There is also a new blog post that is relevant to your shop on how to photograph cushions http://blog.folksy.com/2015/02/05/how-to-photograph-craft-cushions
I hope that all helps.

Hi Camilla,
Oh sorry yes I know that I thought there was somewhere on the dashboard or shop settings to see which images had made it favourite.
Thanks for the info though I will keep my eyes out for any further favourite items! x
Oh my goodness Iām really chuffed. Iāve just been looking through the folksy favourites and discovered my little mini muffin charm on there. I never realised I had been on the front page at some point. Iām really happy
The charm didnāt sell, but I wondered why views went through the roof for a few days a while back.
It would be great to have a notification when we get chosen

My photographs arnt really good enough to be front page.
I wish I had more time to work on them but I have a 5month yr old who needs me more
I struggle to with photos and have retaken them so many times now.
One thing I donāt understand is how to square them all my pictures seem rectangle some I have cropped and I can see the grey frame around them like this one https://folksy.com/items/6604939-Heart-stamped-Earrings which I know is not right but others I havenāt cropped like this one https://folksy.com/items/6604964-sterling-silver-oxidised-Dandelion-earrings- but it still isnāt square but it fills the frame I think so is this still a problem.
When looking at other people pictures some are like mine but lots are perfectly square and bigger on the page I am so confused can anyone help⦠Thank you Debbie.
Hi Debbie, I use Picasa (a free to download photo-editing program) to crop my photos into a square shape. When you look at your photos in your listing they will be rectangular if you havenāt cropped them but in thumbnails elsewhere on folksy they will be square and you may lose parts of your image.
There is lots of photo manipulating software out there - have a go!
Thanks Fantoosh will have a look at Picasa I am not very good at all on computers but will explore and see what happensā¦x Debbie

I have just had a look through the favourite finds and found one of my rings! Thank you Folksy! Like many others, I had no idea that I had been on the front page so it was a lovely surprise to see one of my pieces in your selection. I will keep working on my photography in the hope that some more of my items will get picked in the future.

Feeling sad as Iāve looked through Folksys favourites and Iāve never been chosen. Possibly looking at how I take my photos today rather than making anything.
I struggle with photos, a friend has shown me a few ways to display my items as part of his job is taking photos. Teddy I like using as a) he has a lovely face and b) it shows my bibs around a neck rather than just flat. I know its personal choice. I have with their suggestion found a lovely throw which is plain cream but will be consistant in photos and not hopefully detract to much.
Will hae a look at Picasa as that is completely new to me.
Thanks for all the tips.

@katesKorner Unless my eyes are going a bit off, I think some of your photos are not 100% in focus. Certainly your tag blanket at top of page is a teeeny bit fuzzy. I think focus is one of the main things you must have for a clear picture however well it is composed xx
PS Your things are lovely and it might well be my eyes
