Getting left behind

I could not live without my technology. Even my machines are computerised and as for the induction hob, something out of a space ship, lol. Lee liked it for the lights!

I’m with you @teabreaks me and technology are not good bedfellows either.
One thing I can say is just take a look at the number of sales you’ve had, that’s thousands of happy customers and thousands more happy recipients, whatever you are doing you are doing well so don’t worry too much about being left behind.

LOL Debby @Bearlescent …I have YET to swipe and answer a call successfully…LOL
Caroline @Caroleecrafts what actually IS an induction hob…I have no idea… Last week I had to buy a new drier and nearly had a nervous breakdown trying to figure it out…I just want to put the washing IN and turn it ON… Dozens of different programmes…my old drier was brilliant and 28 years old…worked perfectly until the door hinge fell off. Could I get a new hinge?..NO CHANCE…stupid eh?
As for online banking…NOOOO…I still have a paper invoice sent to me every month and if I have a cheque to pay in, I post it to the bank and THEY add it to my account.
Thank you all, you have restored my faith in human nature…xxx
Thank you to everyone

@teabreaks I understand where you are coming from, tech and me do not always speak the same language. Having said that I just dive in and hope for the best, often it doesn’t work out and when that happens you can hear me shouting Andrewwww (that’s hubby) he was a engineer for Canon for years then retrained as a biomedical engineer so tech is his best friend. But he always asks have you tried and I say yes and it hates me, then and only then will he come and help sort the problem out.

When I ask what caused the problem his reply is “Problem between keyboard and chair” I use to give him a blank stare and he would say ID 10 error. again a blank stare from me and then he would spell out I.D. 10-T error. (idiot) To which he would get a reply of “you know you have to sleep at some point”

It’s a good job I can take a joke otherwise well he also has to eat

Lovely Brenda, just keep being you. You inspire me with your work, you have so much knowledge it blows my mind (tech aside!) and most importantly you make me smile xxx

Just keep painting, Brenda, keep your hands active. There are enough people on here to explain the tech stuff if you do need help. I’m a technophile, am happy to tackle most computer “things” although I draw the line at smartphones…hate the things and the way they now control people’s lives. Someone I used to know in my art group is now in a home, in their 90s and quite unable to use their hands, he was a super painter.
The act of drawing or painting is a pleasure for the mind and spirit; if it brings some extra cash as well, all the better.

That’s one of the reasons I won’t have a smart phone, I think they control peoples lives, they are a shackle and impede everyday life more than they enhance it. (And I don’t actually like speaking to people, so not having a mobile is often a good excuse :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:)

This made me laugh, my husband says ‘finger trouble and impatience’

Morning Brenda, I keep up with some stuff with a little help from my daughter, hoorah! but some I just don’t get involved in as I don’t have to time to learn too many new things. Always feel like I’m winging it.

But you keep going Brenda, you know your art is wonderful and like you say creating it keeps us happy  :slightly_smiling_face:

Just to reassure all you non-teckies out there. I AM Teckie. All tech problems in this household are solved by ME. I once spent 3 days solid removing a shocking worm from the desktop which came in via McAfee… that well known anti virus system !!
It did take 3 days but I did it and I did not have to resort to calling ‘Mr Computer Doctor’ to fix it for me.

BUT

  1. I am totally unable to get my laptop Outlook to read/write via my Gmail address (though the Pc upstairs with same Outlook parameters will)
    and
  2. My stupid phone keeps locking me out of my Apps (instagram, outlook, camera) and only way into them is to switch the phone off and wait 5 minutes for it to agree to switch itself on again and then I usually have to put my app password in again to get in… I cannot tell you how irritating it is to not be able to get into Instagram on my phone as that is the only Social media which I have to feed from my phone !!

When i was at the office I was the tech one and I do sometimes recall how to do things but with it all ever evolving my bear fluff brain just doesn’t have space for anymore teckie knowledge lol :upside_down_face:
But l know who to ask for help on Folksy when it comes to tech stuff.

Glad I am not the only one Debby. My world is constantly thinking of ‘must make up that baby knitwear design which i keep seeing in my head’, or looking at hundreds of gemstones strands thinking these are going to never be used in my lifetime as I have so many. I try not to think of the possible thousands of pounds i may have waisted and it really does depress me. The other day I just sat and sobbed my heart out wishingI had never invested so much money in them. Then I see the horrendous price increases quality gemstones have risen by since covid and it helps lift my low spirits. I see social media like you as a necessary evil. I think the general public must be fed up with a constant bombardment of small businesses trying to sell their wears. I personally don’t understand why Folksy is not better known by the general public if you think of the hundreds of Folksy sellers doing their bit each day on social media.
Back to the knitting.

Gail @DemelzaDesigns please don’t feel sad or unhappy…your work is amazing and is really recognizable…a real inspiration that I love to look at… Even if not in visible cash, your work is worth a very high value xx this is me in my hey day…xxx

Oh thanks Brenda.

@DemelzaDesigns I can certainly relate to the huge amount of money spent on things I will never use Gail, I think creatives are all a little guilty of over spending on crafts.
I often wonder the same thing, Folksy put posts on social media every day as do other sellers yet they are still little known, perhaps people just don’t take it in.

That tells me posting every day on social media doesn’t equate to visibility and sales. I rarely
promote E on any of my social media, it’s always Folksy or my own website, and yet the sales on E are consistent.

Keep doing what you love Brenda as long as Folksy suits you and your painting brings you joy that’s all that matters and if you sell some paintings along the way, well, that’s wonderful! we will all be ‘left behind’ eventually with technology so fast paced it’s hard to keep up
