Hand Dyed Items - yarn, threads, fabric, fibre

I love hand dyeing and seeing what other people create too! I couldn’t find a showcase area for it so share your hand dyed items here! Any type of dye (whether natural or synthetic) on any type of material!

I’ll start us off - this is my Dragon embroidery silk which has been dyed with acid dyes.

I had a bit of a foray into hand dying buttons so here are some made into earrings on sterling silver posts.

Oh they’re beautiful!

This thread looks gorgeous. I have this in my favourites. I’m looking forward to trying it x

Oh thank you, not in the same league as the beautiful purples on your embroidery silk and wasn’t the most successful experiment as only some buttons take dye but at least these ones took a bit.

 Thank you! I particularly love Dragon from my current colourways. I can dye the silks much faster than I can stitch samples of them, but this one looks particularly nice when stitched! I’m hoping the light is nice to do some more photos tomorrow showing a couple of my silks in use. (I’m gradually going to work through all of them).

Thank you. I guess that’s the thing. Some materials take dye more readily than others. The silk takes up the dye so readily! I also dye wool and spinning fibres and different breeds of sheep take dye differently (and that’s not even getting into trying different dyes either!). On Merino Wool colours tend to come up bright and clear, but on Blue-Faced Leicester Wool they tend to look more like watercolours for the same ratio of wool to dye. I find it endlessly fascinating to play with!

Hooray! A dyeing thread, thank you @stephanellidesigns - already variety in the types of things we all make and I look forward to seeing what else pops up.
