Hi eveyone. Hope all is good and happy in your worlds
I have put a lot of effort into crafting different items and setting up websites, shops and social media. (Just like us creatives all do!) Then I get frustrated with not selling things, despite putting maximum effort in, and I end up jacking it all in. A few months/ years later I start another creative endeavour and I repeat this cycle!
I didn’t sell a thing over Christmas, or when I put most my items in a sale for January and yep you’ve guessed it I was considering chucking it all in again . Then this week I suddenly became super charged and made a load of different items, I decided to start selling art prints again too and added them to my folksy shop, sharing it on Pinterest. I’m not on any social media platforms so it hard to get myself out here and noticed. I feel more motivated now and hoping I might just get noticed and make a few sales. I have so much in my craft room waiting for loving homes!
Is anyone else like this or is it just me?
Thanks for listening and sending lots of love.
Hi Natasha! It’s hard to stay motivated when sales aren’t happening, but this community is very supportive and that really helps. I’ve nearly packed it all in several times over the years, and now sell something very different from when I started my first online shop sixteen years ago - so I hope your latest additions to your shop are a success for you!
Hi Natasha, you create some lovely items you should definitely now chuck it all in. I have to say that in my experience social media is the way to go, sharing seems to be the way to get noticed. It does take up more time than I wish to spend but it is worth it in the end.
Good luck with your shop and keep creating.
Tina
Hi Natasha, I think at some point most of us have been were you are now and wondering whether all the hard work is actually worth it. I came close to doing the same a few years ago but worked my way through all the negative feelings I had and came out the other side. One thing I have noticed with myself is when I am feeling fed up with it all sales don’t seem to happen, when I am positive they do…may be a coincidence but I have certainly noticed it myself.
I do think social media is important, could you choose one platform either Instagram or facebook and concentrate your efforts on there. I think Instagram is the easiest of the two, I get sales from both but I put far more into instagram now. I think it would make a huge difference, people need to see your work and the chances of them stumbling across a Folksy shop without are minimal.
I hope things improve for you, like Tina said you have some lovely items in your shop but they need to be seen, all the best with your new products.
You are not alone Natasha. I’m no good ( yet)! with social media but once I’ve listed the majority of my stock I am going to have to work on getting people from outside our crafty world to visit Folksy.
I’m drawn to craft fairs because I’m a crafter but sellers need people who don’t make their own to visit and buy and it’s the same with Folksy. So ‘ Must try harder ‘ will be my motto for social media. Jan
You are not alone. I think of jacking it all in regularly! I’m afraid all the advice about posting and pushing and making your shop visible is good advice but if you are like me you would prefer to be making than pushing on the internet. No way round it though! Best of luck with your new listings - your shop has loads of stuff in it so sure something will catch someone’s eye. I’m interested in how you find sharing on Pinterest. Does it work?
Hiya. Thanks so much for the moral support. glad it’s not just me! Well done you for keep coming back to it and changing things up each time. That’s so kind, thank you xx
Hiya, thank you so much! I used to be on Facebook and Instagram and they did work well for me, I certainly got more noticed. However I came away from these platforms (kind of shooting myself in the foot really) hoping to find an alternative way, but unfortunately it has back fired slightly. Every now and again I consider starting these platforms back up but I left in the first place for inner peace, so very reluctant to try it all again. Thank you, and you. Xx
Hiya, thank you so much for your support. I totally agree with the positivity there .
I only left Instagram about 4 months ago. I’m so reluctant to go back to any social media, however if it’s the way to get sales I would choose instagram as my main one again. Thanks so much for the advice and it’s certainly something to ponder over. Again, thank you for your lovely comment and taking a look at my shop too. Xxx
Hiya, thanks for your comment . Yes I totally agree. It’s a shame we can only be found via social media. I hope you find your way around it all with ease xx
Hiya, aww that’s a shame to hear. Sounds like me! We will get there in the end, I’m sure. . I totally agree there too. I love making but find it less thrilling to go and promote myself
. Thank you and you. Well I’ve had Pinterest for a while but not started using it properly since a couple of months ago. So my actual followers are from years ago. Although I gained 1 follower the other day!
I noticed when I was listing new items in my folksy shop that it had a pin button, so I literally pinned everything to my sacred soul board. It must have worked because today I had an email from Pinterest saying I had had 31 shares of the newly listed items in less than 24 hours. I was very happy! That’s the most I’ve ever had shared on there. So I think the more time you spend dedicating yourself to sharing, again the more you will be seen. I do like Pinterest for inspiration too. Hope this helps.
I dont really understand pinterest other than to add new items to it but I dont do anything else on there, I have lots of boards but I don’t add any descriptions I just pin from Folksy. I didn’t realise you had been on Instagram previously…lerhaps when you feel up to it give it another go, I do totally understand how you feel.
Thanks lovely
NOPE! NOT just you … I’ll say no more.
I’m in exactly the same boat at the moment.
I’ve been trying different things to get noticed, I have a pretty good following on Facebook and I’ve been working on building up my Instagram following too. But it’s very hard work and makes it quite depressing at times when you don’t sell anything.
All we can do is keep plugging away at it and hope that at some point things pick up.
Don’t forget we’re in the middle of a cost of living crisis AND have just gone into a recession too.
BTW the link to your website doesn’t work because you don’t have an SSL certificate
Debbie, a lot of your bears are on Pinterest now. 10 am. Try and see. Jan Just one now, on first page.
Thanks for your comment sorry to hear you too are experiencing the same. It can be very tiring trying to schedule enough time in the day to try and get yourself out there, thats another reason I haven’t the social media. Still debating within whether to set up instagram again
Yes of course, that is very true.
Oh doesn’t it? Thanks for letting me know. Id does she I click on it but is that because it’s my website? What is a SSL certificate? I’m not great with website building. Thanks
Could I add a sale please @Fififoxi …thank you.
Also I wonderd if anyone can help- I want to order some postal boxes to fit approx 6x6 cards…
Not too deep… i have cardboard backed envelopes which are ok for 2 cards but 3 are too squashed…
Ive spent the morning looking on Amazon but they are either well over a pound each or too small…
I wonder if any fellow card makers can help.
Thank you
I buy mine from Amazon pack of 50 work out to about 25p each.
These any good? You have to buy 50 at a time but the cost is way less than a pound each Large Letter Postal Boxes | PiP Box Shipping | Kite Packaging or they have those expandable cardboard book mailer things or these ‘capacity’ envelopes Capacity Mailers | Cardboard Boxes | Kite Packaging
