Regs for clothing

You do what you feel best, but keep in mind those regulations don’t seem to apply to us. I’ve peeked at your shop and would say, to me, the main item that I’d expect a care label on is the dog coats, because they’re likely to need washing…my dogs were always magnetically attracted to mud.

Yes I have put hand wash in the discription. @Beesandblossoms
I agree with mud magnet, one of mine just rolls, so I don’t put one on her unless she really needs it. My other dog is happy to wear one and doesn’t roll, and I would say above normal use, and washed dozens of times.

(As a customer of knitted goods), for scarves specifically, I wouldn’t want a label sewn into it to let me know the washing instructions - I hate when labels show on scarves and I always cut them off.

I would much prefer a removable card tag with all the fibre content and washing instructions.

I know this may also be controversial but when I buy any hand sewn or knitted items, I’m not too keen on sewn in brand name tags either. I sometimes think it distracts from the design. (Sorry, a bit off topic)

I take labels of most things too, as they’re usually scratchy and irritating.

@Beesandblossoms I make baby items that I sell at craft fairs and use luggage style tags/labels that I have the size, fabric content and price on (swing tag) I don’t sew labels in as they rub babies skin and I know from my kids I used to end up cutting them out because they would irritate. I put fabric content or ‘unspecified textile content’ on all labels of products that I sell at craft fairs. I sell a variety of things from bags to baby items but only sell patchwork on here at the moment. I must admit as I use a variety of fabrics in these I don’t state what they all are in the listing as like with you it is impossible to determine all of them. The main thing is you are not misleading people.

@thedotterypotter agree totally!

They don’t have to be permanent labels.

Really @Knittingtopia that will make it much easier. Thanks.

That’s a good read. There is a long list of “Products that do not have to bear a fibre content indication” which will mean many items on here are excluded - eg animal clothing (that’s your Dog Coats in the clear…)

Looks like the idea of a removable tag as a card tag, is not suitable for clothing, but at least my dog items don’t need labeling, though i do state in the listing that they are hand wash,
Thanks @Knittingtopia

Interesting, i am glad i asked.

If you read the regs you’ll see that most concerns are groundless in the sense that they won’t apply to individual designers and people creating items from recycled or vintage things. You don’t have to attach labels in every case, just providing the info at point of sale is sufficient.

If you read the regs, you’ll be able to put your mind at rest and ensure your action is tailored to your business. :grinning:
